Has anyone had issues with simultaneously recording 2K ProRes XQ?

We've done this on the Epic-W and found the R3Ds and sometimes the ProRes clips are corrupted and have major glitches.

I assume this is a data rate limitation, and the cards or camera can't handle the data rate of XQ?

Cheers

Yes... and no problems here.

Question.

Why would you shoot XQ if your shooting RAW. ?

I understand pumping out Pro res LT or even 422 for edits. But why Pro Res XQ when your going back to RAW for online grading.
Unless you want to work like the Arri boys and just shoot PRORES. Then turn the RAW function off.

Just a question. Curious about your work flow.

Thanks for the response Mark.

Not necessarily wanting to do this as a workflow... as you say, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Doubling up on data. The reason to shoot simultaneous for me is to use the ProRes files as proxies for immediate editing. In this case my preference is to do this at LT.

I was just curious if anyone has had the glitches we've had, because the Epic-W does not seem to be able to handle 8K R3D + XQ at all, and this was unexpected as the camera gives you the option to shoot this way.

I haven't done xq on any actual job, only 422, but on my testings 8k + 2k xq worked fine, without any corruption. You can try to do some further investigation to see what might be causing it (change r3d compression, fps, cards, codecs etc).
Hope this might help.

Hi Nicholas, can you please save a camera log file and send it to us by submitting a support ticket here.

Best,

Did you do a secure format before you started to record. I think it says its recommended in the manual.

Thanks guys, RED support has acknowledged this as a known bug in firmware prior to 6.3.78.

I have had issues before when recording prores with the "lookaround" option activated. Made all the varispeed clips have a glitch in them
