  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic vs F55 for wildlife

Pre record can make or break your shot. Saying awe what if i just got that shot but i was moments too late. HELLLLL NOOO Cant have that you work too hard for this moment
There done thats a deal breaker.
But also
5K re-posision punch in 2 advantages I use. 1 an edit to give the feeling its a tight camera. Silly as it sounds time to time this can help with your edit. 2 got a wobbly or shaky movement. Pst \Stabilize nice no problem.
100fps @ 5K for fast moving wildlife. Thats quality that can be a home run with the right shot.

Those are 3 reasons flat out hard to match.

Dont let the Global shutter be an issue or ND built in filters.

So squash that

That Sony view find connector is a real pain, just imagine rain of a salt water spash in that. Sorry to hear Curt was caught by it.

We had 4 shoots back in in the last couple of days, cant say the condition of kit was pretty, but the Epics had been working very hard for months on different continents in all sorts of conditions. TLC sorted them out, the cameras required a clean only, they all worked on location with out any major issues. Clients are very happy Im pleased to say.

The sensor sensitivity question is relevant but its not a deal breaker for the most part. If your comparing like for like also remember if your using Alexa, F55, of C500 external recording devices are needed for 4k or greater resolution capture so the power question is much less relevant. Also in terms of quantity of data captured all of these cameras are similar, its just more elegant for Epic. They all make nice images, just one of them is more suited for Wildlife than the others.

I'll agree that the viewfinder connection is not clearly thought out but add-ons from solid camera and arri address this issue. The F55 records 4k s-log internally at a power consumption of around 25W I think that it goes up to 40W with the raw back - still less than Epic
The epic wins on pre-record and high frame rates (in 4k and greater) but loses to the sony in weight, power consumption and sensitivity.
Both cameras produce a very nice image, you just have to decide what's important to you.
