Been playing with my Epic-X for the past week and having some issues with the 5" touch screen. (I've shot with the Epic before and don't remember having this many issues, but I could be wrong).

What I'm not sure is if this is a software bug, or if I've got a bad touch screen. Is there any way to tell? Have others been having issues with the touch screen?

A lot of times the touch screen is unresponsive forcing me to restart the camera. Or I'll touch somewhere and it activates a different button elsewhere. I've run the Test that has the screen full of green squares that turn blue. For the most part it works, but sometimes squares go blue on the opposite side of the screen where I'm touching.

Basically I'm trying to figure out if I've got a bad touch screen or if it's just the bugs in the firmware. Right now I can deal, but on a job this is going to be killer if we're constantly having to restart the camera to get the touch screen to work, so I'm hoping to get this resolved in a week or two.

Thoughts?

Chris, did you try the touchscreen test inside the menus? I had similar problems at first but then they mostly disappeared when reloaded the firmware. The only minor remaining thing is, the touchscreen responses are sometimes somewhat slow with my fingers. Amazingly enough, the touchcreen seems to response faster with other people. Still, this is not the first time I've discovered such a thing.

Due to inconsistent response I rarely use the touchscreen for menu operations. The navigator wheel works a charm though, so I just use it instead.

Most X package folks, including me, haven't gotten side handles yet. So I bet Chris here is pretty darn frustrated...

The touchscreen is picky in my experience. Works rapidly and accurately for me, but not for my business partner. I tell him his fingers need upgrading... not much consolation.

Heh, I think there is a lot of truth in this. I find the same thing with my iPhone and iPad. Sometimes my fingers aren't as conductive as other people!

The touchscreen is very hit or miss. I have seen it completely not work for some people's fingers and function fine for others. Sometimes I have trouble and sometimes it seems to lock up. I've never had an issue with the touchscreen of my iPhone or iPad like this. It's pretty frustrating and honestly disappointing.

This happened to me just today actually. Touchscreen always works flawlessly for me. But for my AC, it wouldn't respond at all. Super weird...

At least I can sleep well knowing that I'm the only one that can use the camera, haha.

While I don't know enough about the Red touchscreen specifically. I've had problems with mine as well. Most touch screens work by sensing the small electrical charge that naturally occurs in your body. With some people this charge is greater through their fingers than with others. Also environment can be a factor. But if that is how the 5" works it does explain why some people it just works better with than others.

I've found that a very very light touch is 95% effective. Some people are used to pressing harder on touch screens, so I tell them to be really gentle with the touch and that seems to do the trick.

While starting up my X for the first time today my TS was not working well, especially the top was insensitive, start up would soemtimes solve it, but then it would not respond after a couple of seconds . A different TS worked much better, so I mailed my Rep Alan Piper, who responded in 3 minutes (!), new firmware did not work, and also the test function in the TS showed very weird behavior , blue blocks appearing in the lower part of the screen, when I was pushing on the top. By accident I borrowed a Redmote, and after attaching it everything worked fine .
Weird...

I had issues when using my touchscreen yesterday for the first time. Just got my X, haven't had chance to reinstall firmware but I'll try that. Whenever there was a drop down menu, I'm very rarely able to actually make a selection.

A couple of days ago we received two EPIC monitors and one of them does not work the touchscreen. We have the same problem. What can be done if the firmware has been updated? there is a way of applying a test?
