Just a quick update: the plates are in production and will be ready to ship after coating by next week! :)

Logo etching will be an option as well. The logo will appear on the face visible from the front of the camera.

Sweet! At least this we know this part will work fine with the new updated Epic-X design. It fits right where the Side Handle goes and I'm sure Red won't be redesigning that.

Or maybe - Do not hang the camera from this plate...

Exactly. Since it uses the same interface as the DSMC side handle, I can't assume that the interface has strength beyond the side handle's. We've seen the side handle comfortably hold the camera, lens and a few other accessories... probably 8-10lbs worth of stuff. More than enough for normal camera accessories... even a large onboard monitor or two. I just don't want somebody to hang the camera from a baby pin in that plate with a 12:1 zoom and full accessory package on it and call me when it ripped the side of their camera off. Ultimately it comes down to just using one's own common sense.

The engraving isn't completely sorted just yet, but there will definitely be a visible warning on there to keep people from doing something stupid!

$250. There are 38 freakin' holes in the thing! :)

There are many plans for things to hook to the plate guys... you're gonna freak out when you see them.

Naturally you can engrave your logo right on the front.

Well I for one want to see it set up with 38 accessories, that would be a sight.

Nice work, again, as usual.

Brook, does the FMJ bottom plate interfere with the Red DSMC quick release platform kit and Epic mounting plate?

I really like the protection it affords the body, especially for outside hires. I'm in Sydney if you're able to chat. A mate of mine is working on Gatsby with you.

I don't believe you can properly mount the FMJ bottom plate and the RED DSMC quick release plate.

Brook are you still working on making side arms that are compatible with the DSMC quick release as shown in that picture?

The FMJ_Bottom does interfere with RED's DSMC QR baseplate. The FMJ_Bottom is designed to function as a spacer for the old RED/Arri or Element Technica Hybrid baseplates. I also have a 15mm studio baseplate of my own coming which will work with the FMJ_Bottom.

The sidearms to work with RED's DSMC QR baseplate are still underway but are not completed yet. The Stealth Plate is the current "best bet" for a side cheese plate on the Epic since it does not require any additional parts to support itself... it just attaches with no additional accessory requirements. The NATO-profiled sidearms [similar to the rendering above] will surface as production models soon.

The next big thing is a series of battery plates which will be announced shortly. Stay tuned...

Brook, I have the full FMJ and it's great. I'm generally very critical of design, but everything you've done so far is superb. You really have a gift for design. Customer service at ViewFactor has been great as well. Please bring on the battery plates.
