EPIC STAGE Clarification and update

Yes I wish today wasn't an holiday. Will wire the funds for both our cameras tomorrow morning and pray everything goes smoothly.

Wow thats fast :-)
Now How do i add money in that accout so i can cover the 5K$ for the EPIC X

Thanks !

Hope that you realize that the 5K deposit is part of Stage 2.
To qualify for Stage 2, there were a number of prerequisites - all very well detailed in this and other threads.
If you qualified, you would have been contacted by your RED Bomb Squad rep in early April with the EPIC-X offer - with your unrevocable decision required by May 1st.
That deadline was extended by a few days but has long since closed.
The 5K deposit due by June 1st only applies to those RED owners that met all of the conditions and executed Stage 2.

If you did not qualify for Stage 2, you can deposit funds to your RED account, but it won't get you an EPIC-X any faster - Stage 3 has yet to be opened.

After a domestic wire transfer... how long did it take you guys to receive confirmation of payment/reservation?

Hi Andrae,

Your appointed Bomb Squad Rep will email you a paid invoice once the deposit has been processed. Due to the June 1st deadline we have been playing a little catch up, I would estimate you should being receiving something within the next couple business days.

Best Regards,

Michael

Just got confirmation from Chad Koeller that the payment was received... so happy. We are all good to go for 2 Epic cameras.

There's really something to be said for a company where its customers "pray" their payment is received and are so "happy" when their funds get deposited in the company's account.

;)

Go RED! Congratulations Andrae!

LOL... heck I'm even wearing the RED T-Shirt now.

If you buy a new red one, does it automatically come with an M-X sensor now?

I'd be curious to know if Red ONE sales have gone down since the eligibility period ended.

No. You pay the $17,500 for the body, and then after your all of the RED One's that were bought previously before yours whose owners want the upgrade, you may pay the $5,750 for the sensor upgrade.

RED doesn't have a current generation camera for sale.

RED doesn't have a current generation camera for sale, period. You can buy the last generation (three years old now), but that's it. It's a major bummer. I'd be an ideal candidate for an MX'd RED One at this point, but with no product to buy, I can't. I wonder how many other people are in the same boat as me.

I'm currently waiting for Sony's offering in the fall @ ~$19K. I don't expect the Epic to be available to "new" buyers like myself for 18-24 months, minimum. Might as well be forever.

Not having a current generation camera for sale makes me very concerned about RED's future. RED can't be earning enough on MX upgrades to keep the lights on, so Jim is just blowing through cash now. 200 engineers working on the "bug"? That's like a $16 million/year burn rate for engineering alone (unless they're offshoring it, then it could be lower). I think the whole HDSLR thing really took the wind out of RED, and now Alexa (and soon, Sony) are chipping away at the Epic market. All in all, a precarious position.

On paper, the Epic is awesome. But companies with "great" products die all the time because they can't execute in time. I sincerely hope RED isn't one of them.

Best, Erich

P.s. Renting is not an option for me. I own all my gear and use most of it for short burst each day. I'm an owner, not a renter -- exactly RED's market.

Come on Jim. Put the MX on RED ONE already. Your current loyal customers WILL understand that it's inevitable business choice. You are not entirely depriving anyone of upgrades. You are just offering EXISTING product to new customers.

The more you wait, and withheld the technology, the more 'head ache' there will be. Some company from somewhere comes up with another AMAZING affordable camera, BOOM. Everyone is jumping ship. It's footage is everywhere. Film, youtube, vimeo,
sundance. You name it. And people start comparing to the 'old' RED ONE. There will be another 20 page thread discussion before the moderators closes the thread. Jannard starts another thread in REDCON that will compare how 'old' RED ONE is 'still' superior to competitor. Another round on spec clarification takes place in NAB. More head aches will come after Film Fellers makes Another comparison with 'old' RED ONE.

By the time RED realizes that putting MX on Red One WAS a good idea, you've lost your customer base. But still, RED will be pioneers in our hearts. Happy ENDING.

upgrading the used cameras is the smartest thing RED can do and it really pays to be an early adaptor

the MX has increased the value of the red camera by quite a bit

amazing for those guys ..

MX ... :drool5:

Then the Epic comes out
