Epic Stage 3 procedure...

Stage 3 procedure regarding EU-export to the US

Stage 3 procedure regarding EU-export to the US

I have just talked to FED EX in Sweden about shipping my camera back to the US, where i bought it from in 2008. They gave me the following shipping cost incl. insurance for the $17.500 RED ONE:

642 € (5.775 SEK)

This price does not include possible FED EX discounts.

FED EX also told me that the exporter/sender pays neither the Custom fees nor the VAT. That is always a cost the importer/reciever pays, which in this case means RED in the US. However, I don't know if RED later intends to charge the customer for the additional costs of Customs fees and VAT. Maybe not, maybe they will.

Myself, I don't see the cost for exporting my $17.500 camera back to the US as very expensive. The stage 3 program is generous in itself.

With regards to the custom fees policy in Sweden, importing a film or video camera from the US, seems to be 4,9%, see regulation #8525 80 91 00. Though some might argue it falls under #8525 80 99 00, which stipulates 12,5%. In this case, it is the opposite situation, but I don't know the current US customs fees when importing a film or video camera from the EU or US VAT.

How come you have to send yours to the US when the rest of us got UK?! Very odd.. Its seems like handling this with the UK office was the reason to avoid all the strange custom rules..

I talked to my Bomb Squad rep Ivan at RED UK HQ just before X-mas and that what's he told me. If you once bought the RED ONE from the US, it has to return to the US. If you bought the RED ONE from RED UK than it is UK. As far as I know, this policy hasn't changed. Remember that RED UK didn't come about until much later in the revulotinary RED expansion. I ordered my RED ONE in November 2007 and recieved it in September 2008. However, everything else goes through RED UK. That means the stage 3 EPIC and all the other goodies. Correct me if I am wrong and please point me to the thread that contradicts the above. :)

Nic - we Australians don't pay import duty on incoming digital cameras - you might cop 5% on one of the minor accessories - our duty for a Stage 2 Epic was $15.85 on a consignment worth just over $24,000 (we had a few other things as well as the Epic in the box). However like everything else here you will pay 10% Goods & Services Tax (GST) which is calculated on the invoice value plus shipping costs converted to Australian dollars on the day of shipping.

anyway, from my experience shipping with FED EX from Sweden to the UK is even more expensive than to the US, but maybe I just have had bad luck...

Mmmm I just assumed we where to ship it to UK instead of US.. Well I hope that this make the Stage3 process smoother, instead of putting us Europeans in the backseat as usual :)

you can't compare the stage 3 epic procedures to the current EU crisis. :) i visited the guys at red uk. they guys are great and their office could not have been located any better than right next to the pinewood studios. plus they anseres every time i call them plus fast email replies....

man you guys in EU have to go through such hassels. I just want to know from the 12 that recieved e-mails how they sent their camera's back in the US. Thanks in advance.

When I asked RED their response was that I could trade in the camera at either RED US or UK, but that the subsequent EPIC upgrade had to also be purchased in that country.

Hope that helps.

This is great news if it is the case.. I suppose it's just a case of patience and see what the real procedure is... surely everyone can be patient :-)
