Hi,

I dont know whether it is allowed but if anyone who has got an allocation mail for stage 3 can chip in with the procedure that is being followed for swapping the cameras then it will be helpful for other stage 3 guys.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know what method of shipment you all are using sending your babies off to RED for the upgrade?

and would be interesting to find out the costs for shipping a $17.500 camera from EU to the US

Im guessing you will have to ship it to Red Europe other than the US as both US and Red Europe are doing the evaluations.

i bought my camera from the us, red's policy is then that i have to send back to ca rather than uk. i don't really know why. maybe it's got something to do with business practice

That is what he said yes. But that could be interpreted two ways.

1). I got my original Red One from the US, as Europe didn't exist when i ordered my Red back in May 08 - if it is the case its where it was 'Originally' Purchased then yes it will be sent back to the US.

BUT 2). What is more likely to be the case is that i have purchased the Stage 3 exchange in Europe, Ivan and Alan etc took the money for the Stage 3 reservation - that is the purchase they are referring too most likely. My $5k is in my Europe account - Red Europe LTD is a separate thing from Red US - i know this has been a big thing for the guys to sort out in Europe and has caused a lot of headaches with money being in an account and being transferred over to Europe for the Stage II'ers.

Andi.

In short, its going to be fun to see what the best way of doing things is for RED and its customers.

Thank goodness I'm not in that boat! Don't envy your guys if it does have to go back to the US.!!!

Am sure they have worked a way for it to go through RED Europe.

:))

In Australia we have no choice but to ship back to the US - and that is going to cost big-time if you insure it for the full value. And once it gets there who knows whether it will pass inspection without additional cost for repairs, possibly of features one has never used so do not realise they are not working. Once they Epic is sent out, will we be liable for import duty on the full Epic price or just the upgrade cost?

my understanding is - unfortunately - that cameras purchased directly from RED US must be returned to RED US. What would be good is if there is a way for RED Europe to maybe help with shipping using their account etc. paid for by those wanting to ship. Maybe we could all benefit from the reduced rate that RED probably gets from FedEx and Fed Ex gets the extra business. In general UPS is a cheaper option that FedEx from the UK. I guess that might be extra headache fro RED Europe but RED US would also know exactly when a few cameras would be shipping. It might be possible to speed up the whole process since RED Europe could evaluate the RED Ones before shipping and send a report to RED US who could ship 'both ways' at the same time.
Just a thought....

What about the CF Card reader, do we remove it, or send it in with the camera? Does RED send the CF Card reader back with the Epic-X? Anybody want to keep the CF Card reader as a spare part?

There seems to be quite a bit of conflicting info out there about shipping with Fed Ex and insurance/declared value

More info on this from international stage 3 guys will really help....

Thanks

Do card readers from R1 fit the EPIC? I never tried.

Regarding sending it back to the US, I'm afraid that the main trouble is customs bureaucrazy, RED needs to find a way that doesn't cost them or us a big extra when performing this generous exchange of used cameras.

Once they Epic is sent out, will we be liable for import duty on the full Epic price or just the upgrade cost?
Based on my talks with RED UK, I'm pretty sure it will be liable on the full Epic price, unfortunately.

My stage II experience tells me that you have to pay full customs duty on the invoice value...
