  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC stage 3...list

Congratulations John! Just curious what accessories they had for you to pick up with your epic. Could you share please?

Picked up my Epic this afternoon....Only just scratched the surface so far...I keep getting surprised by how light the damn thing is!
RED One #177 converted to Epic #2234

Whilst everyone else is watching the superbowl this weekend, I'll be shooting.....I dunno what yet, but I'll be shooting.

Just the redvolts & travel charger, luckily I'd advance ordered the side handle, so I've had that sitting here waiting for my Epic for a couple of months, I'm also using the old RED One LCD ( or my EVF, which also works, thankfully!)

Word of warning to some of you in Stage 3:
I sent in what I thought was a near mint RED One only to be hit with a $1,400 service fee. My audio board failed evaluation due to one of the inputs being "stuck & jammed in". Keep in mind I have NEVER had an issue with this port. Nothing I can do about it, it seems. Just throwing it out there.

Same here, although my bill is $1700, the weird thing is that the mini xlr was always "hard working" I just thought this is the way it is.
Shame the entire board has to be swept to change the connector.
Still happy to have my Epic soon at home!

Sounds like you were running with the old sound board. Red upgraded the sound boards on the earlier versions .

+1 on being hit with a completely unexpected audio board replacement charge :( I sent my camera through the audio board upgrade program a while back, and since then I have rarely done any audio. The few times I did run audio to my R1, it worked just fine.

That being said, it is a drop in the bucket compared to the savings from Red's unprecedented and generous trade-in offer. Much appreciated!!!

Thanks for the feedback about the fees you're getting slapped with. I'll try to start putting some extra money aside for these potential fees. The upgrade program is still a tremendous deal. I feel that we're all very lucky to benefit from such a generous trade-in program.

Just paper work I guess because payment has cleared.

So almost everything is on back order so what exactly is must have to shoot?

To get going ... you really don't need the Redmote and Sidehandle (and Redvolts) as badly as you'll want the Touchscreen LCD.

As long as you have the right lens mount ... an SSD module (and reader) ... SSD media ... a battery and/or AC power solution ... and that touchscreen LCD, you're styling.

Thanks for the info Pete. I forgot all about the reader! Need to call my BS and place that on order. LCD and redmote all on B.O. Does this mean I can't shoot?

I'm afraid so Ivan. If you have the SSDs and power the very least you need is the touch screen as you can monitor and control from it.

Same here - paid in full today and was told it would be 3-5 days before it ships. And what I'm getting I can't use until the touchscreen and/or Redmote comes out of backorder. Bummer! Might not have sent my R1 in so fast if I had known I'd be stuck with a non-functioning Epic...

There is a way that you can navigate some of the camera menus with the EVF buttons . However, that seems very time consuming and just asking for a screw up ... IMHO.

Yeah ... I would really suggest buying two 1.8" SSD Readers ... just in case. Even if you keep one boxed and wrapped. On a job, the media reader can be so essential, and it's not exactly the kind of thing you can pick up at Radio Shack in a pinch.

As far the touchscreen LCD, you might be in luck.

yeah its not a good gauge to go by those dates when you ordered, which is why i don't post them.

I will tell you that our manufacturing team surprised me today with a boatload of 5" touch LCDs.... many of you got an email today.. and many more will tommorow.

This is getting worse day by day. Waited this long for stage 3 and now that I'm rushing to get it here it's pointless. I've done the best I can to make sure I had gear which I went out and bought months ago but accessories in the package were not on my list. I don't mind a handicapped Epic but not one in a coma.
