EPIC stage 3...list

#177 evaluated...new Epic paid for...just waiting for my email from Jason letting me know I can drive down to pick it up!

Great news !! Roll on Stage three. Is this the first stage 3 Epic to be received ? Also are you happy to let us know if you got the full trade in value?

Thank you !!!

I'm not sure on REDs policy on this, so I won't go into specifics, but I can say it was all exceedingly reasonable.
It was a calendar week between drop off at RSH & eval results

Cheers

I've just received our e-mail from RED. We're number 1139.

We're UK based and need to ship back to California - anyone had costs to ship from the UK via Fed Ex etc.?

I think it is going to be expensive, so just maybe a little flight out to sunny California may be on the cards :patriot:

Great news Scott

Can I recommend Continental, from Glasgow - NY Newark - LA
Never had a bad flight on that run. Nice stop over of a few hours in Newark.
Take off about 7am local. Land about 7pm local. And costs are reasonable. About £550

Be interesting too see what FedEx charges from UK - US?

:))

Hi Steve

Just checked with Fed Ex online and it looks like they would charge in the region of £220 to ship from Scotland back to RED in California. This includes insurance to the value of $17,500.

On this basis a wee trip to LA may prove better value if I can find the time!

Best wishes

Just a thought before you set off.. I noticed that at least one Red One owner based in France is shipping to Red UK not to the US. Their original delivery date is before mine so Red Europe did not exist when they got their original camera.. perhaps it is possible to return cameras to Red Europe after all - if one is getting stage 3 through them....
which would be GREAT!

It's not base only on ship date. I haven't got my e-mail and got the R1 Feb 2008.

They're based on ship dates and not serial #'s

Anyone get a stage 3 Epic yet?

Hi Peter

My understanding is that if your RED was shipped originally from the US then it has to go back there. Seems crazy and it would make much more sense to deal with RED here in the UK, however I don't make the rules!

I'm going to shop around courier companies and also check whether our business insurance will cover the camera in transit. Without the additional insurance, Fed Ex would charge around £100.

Best wishes

Hi Scott,
I agree... it was said to me that the camera must go back to the US but there are a few posts scattered around the form from people in Europe - outside the UK that seem to be shipping their cameras to Pinewood so perhaps things are changing (along with everything)... for me its a 40 min drive to Red Europe - obviously much better. I've always found UPS to be slight;y cheaper than FedEx from here BTW.

In the end I guess it will be whatever it takes. Red are certainly very reasonable and responsible - the best company I've ever dealt with so I'm sure if things are possible they would go with what makes sense for everyone.

cheers

That's actually cheaper than what I though they would charge.

Well a flight from Scotland to RED Europe would be cheaper :)) but I think its as you stated. If your RED was shipped from the US, then its got to go back there. Not sure what the reasons are. Must be an accounting / finance thing. I know RED Europe was trying to work on a way.

I guess a phone call to the guys at RED Europe tomorrow might be called for to double check.

Although shipping seems cheaper, if you dropped of in person in LA, it would probably be quicker!!!!

Not sure what the import issues are if the ship back from the US?!?!?

:))

I've tried to leave RED Europe alone as much as possible since they are obviously overworked and doing everything they can as fast as they can... I'm sure they will be helpful all the same. For me I will wait until I get my email I can't do anything until then anyway...

re hand carry import issues - as I understand it you must declare it on entry and pay the duty and VAT otherwise laws are broken! The complication may be regarding TARIC codes so I would have a list of what codes any items come under -especially the camera as I think that is zero rated for duty just the 20%VAT to pay ouch! I don't know if the US has a system for reclaiming sales tax if you are 'exporting' purchases (like there is with VAT here)

Are Stage 3 Epics for the UK going to ship from the US or Pinewood? It would make life easier in terms of the import paperwork etc. if they shipped from the UK.

I remember when we received our Red One camera there were lots of issues regarding Taric codes and which one applied to the camera and the various accessories. Anyone in the UK care to chime in with Taric details if you have already received your Epic?

Best wishes
