Really excited to share this awesome short film produced & starring Summer Rayne Oakes.

This was a really fun project I shot with my EPICM and a great opportunity to make something meaningful while putting EPIC through her paces.

"eXtinction" features some shots from the 1st EPIC underwater shoot which I am really pleased with. We used stock shots, donated shots from the community,
old archived footage from an 8mm reel I found. Some of their compression was sloppy imo but I am still happy its out there and people can see it.

Please watch the film and vote, we are currently nominated for best editing and up for peoples choice but of course is up to you so really appreciate your support.

Project would not have been possible without the support from this community in particular I want to thank REDusers Tom Lowe and Christian Munoz-Donoso for providing content.

Thanks for your support RED and enjoy the film! Summer will chime in soon.

Beautiful work!

Thanks everyone for taking time to view and vote. It was such a community effort to launch this little film with a big message. Feel free to check out dates and locations of film festivals throughout 2012 as well: http://extinctionfilm.tumblr.com.

Awesome! The underwater epic shots are still my faves, but I love some of the other shots you got, like the hand moving across the swamp water.

How was this not best cinematography???

Clayton, Summer, and all of the people who made this film possible (including some fellow Redusers) very nice work. It encapsulated a lot of the emotion I feel when I look at the world and the way things are going. I often try to look at the world through my daughter's eyes now as it's far too easy to take things for granted and she is seeing many things for the first time. I often wonder what she will see in her lifetime. Will it be a downward spiral or an eventual awakening? When I look through my eyes, I admittedly see a downward spiral where the end result is a bit depressing. But when I look through her eyes, I see hope and wonder. She already has such a great appreciation for nature and for life itself. What will life on this planet be like for her at my age, what will life be like for her children if she has any? These are things as a parent you can't help but wonder. You want the best for them, you want them to live long, healthy, fulfilling lives. The thought of their world collapsing around them is extremely difficult to come to terms with as a parent.

Thank you for sharing this film. It was beautiful as it was disturbing. Fantastic cinematography as well. Look forward to your future projects.

YEa seriously how di you not get nominated for best cinematography? that seems impossible to me..... The edit is amazing, but goddamn, the images cut together are EVEN BETTER!

Haskell I wanna load this post with "french" to express what I felt when I saw this, but will try to say it in a gentleman way instead. I bow, lift my hat off and say..... AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, BREATH TAKING, HEART BREAKING, SOUL SEARCHING, ENVIOUS, JEALOUS, SENSATIONAL, OUTSTANDING, BEAUTIFUL, WHY DID I NOT DO THIS ONE, I HATE YOU. No words can describe what I think of this piece of art......... and if you havn't figure it out by now.... You have my vote LOL

Fantastic and inspiring film that everyone should be watching and paying attention to - to say nothing of your amazing cinematography!

Congrats to you, Summer, and everyone else involved in this!

Have shared it with all my contacts :)

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

Thank you all for your comments and support

Everyone,

Thank you all for taking the time to respond and write your reviews of our little film.

It takes quite a bit of effort
these days to open up
and share one's innermost thoughts -
so just want to share
a bit of gratitude
for those of you
who have done so on this forum.

Clay and I appreciate that the film
has touched you in some way.
I have to share that this is something
that I approached Clay with
three years ago now -
and always had plans
to shoot it...
It took us three years
to gather enough
time and resource
to produce this work of art.

There may be no commercial value
to such a film. But there need not be
in art.
It was merely our way to touch
a viewer -
to get him/her to understand
that we are losing what we
have around us
at an unprecendented rate.
It becomes all the more apparent
by placing it on the timeline
of my life -
which can be projected onto
your daughters, your sons,
your sisters, your brothers,
the little neighbor child
down the street.

This was again - such a community project
and one that was not without it's ups and downs.
I will share that I lost my closest mentor
while shooting this film,
for which it is dedicated to.
It was the first time in my life
that I felt true loss -
and in many ways -
is what the film is about.

Thank you for viewing,
From the bottom of all of our hearts,
Summer Rayne, Clay, Stavros, Michael, Phil (and all the others who have dedicated time and effort to this film)

Summer & Clay,

Was a pleasure to participate on your project. I am very happy to see our wildlife and time-lapse photography to be used in such beautiful work.
