Epic schedule...

So what's the word?
RED.COM still says that Tattoo should be available "this year" (that was 2009).
RED.COM still says Stage Two is "early 2010".
MX sensor upgrades are happening now - even though that wasn't really spoken of in the October announcement.
You guy's are still posting images from MX sensor's in RED bodies.
What's up with Epic?
No hard feelings.

Someone asked about delivery dates at the RED Day QA session today and the word is basically that nobody knows for sure - except that Jim said he would be pretty pissed if the Epics weren't shipping by summer. Also - there's been a downsize in the amount of Tattoo cameras that are going to be in the field as they're just too expensive to make - probably around 20 or so. Once the Tattoos are out, RED is expecting the Stage 2 will begin a few months after that - depending on feedback from the Tattoo-crowd. Of course - everything is subject to change.

With all due respect, I think we would all be best served by a healthy Tattoo program (20 is fine) and a good amount of feedback before the Epics start to roll off the production line.

Sometimes rushing greatness can have unintended consequences.

I really am just teasing - looking forward to my MX and eventually an Epic. Just wish my RED girlfriend would communicate a little more...

to know whats going on would be fine at least... to get an update what is the current status... i think the new sensor will do a very good job, but there are a lot of other things going on... the last information was the thing with the ASIC.... so any news???
When Scarlet will come by end of summer when is the EPIC coming??? space for speculations.....
Will be interesting when we will see new models from the competitors... but in my opinion it will be better to get bulletproof new camera models, also when it needs a little bit more time....

My understanding from attending yesterday was that Jim was talking about Epic only when he mentioned Summer, and Scarlet would happen after all the Epics are out, not concurrently.

Also, Jim has come on today and clarified his comments, that Summer isn't a deadline, or even real estimate based on progress. It's just the next time he will feel the time pressure caused by delays.

We need to be careful about suggesting Summer is the new deadline, because if it doesn't happen there will be a lot of undeserved flack.

The suggestion (as opposed to statement) would mean July/August 2010. The reality is anyone's guess.

In the past, whenever Red would suggest a potential timeline, countless people would bitch and say they scheduled productions around it, even though they were told not to.

Red will never do this again!

To reiterate, Jim did not say they would be releasing Epic this Summer, he said that if they hadn't he would be feeling the stress. Big difference people...
