EPIC-S...

steve, i think you're trying to ask if there would be a completely redesigned version of the epic-s using the dragon sensor...? but that would become a new camera, and doesn't make much sense to me... but i wouldn't ever complain about any potential options.

haha, jarek...

so i have to say that all of these offerings are really attractive, and i also want to mention generous... thanks for the info jim, and everything else.

Paul, yeah that's what I was meaning, but I guess from Jim's post, there must be some electronic differences between X and S. It no biggy. I was just wondering. Still doesn't detrack from the fact that its an amazing deal for the price, nothing comes close. EPIC-S will be a great A or B camera

But then it dawned on me that TED also mentioned that RED wouldn't comment on New products until they where ready. :-)

right, well the epic-x has more electronic boards to do what it does. and i'm really thinking the epic-s is just pulling out some of those extra guts to get towards the necessities. that just brings in some limitations comparatively.

Agreed. Still such an awesome product and like I said, if you need the higher frame rates or any of the features of the X theyou can always hire one. I think independent filmmakers with 2 EPIC-S is going to be amazing and cost effective for a long time to come. :-)

Thanks for the update, Jim.
So if I understand correctly, the schedule of Epic-S follows Epic-X and is more or less disconnected from the Scarlet program (not FIRST Scarlet and then Epic-S, right?)

I think that's correct Mathieu.

Thanks for the head up :) I have an intermediate cam for now (600D) so take you time and make it right - if I have it in my hands by beginning of next year I am happy - but maybe I might do an X by then :D Thanks so much for opening up your mind and thoughts and plans - much appriciated.

As for the fps discussion - it seems all geared toward 24fps film and 30fps stuff with multipliers (48/60) - I am in HDPAL land most productions go to TV :/ will we have 25/50 fps options on the epics (scarlets)?

Great news! Will the dimensions be the same as epic-m?

And 12-13k will be the brain only i presume, are there also going to be basic shooting kits including for example ssd media? Or would it be better to order some accessoires in advance?

i asked the same question... i think there are some variables up in the air, my guess is that epic-s and scarlet might be rolling out around the same general time frame.

I believe EPIC-M does 25fps so I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Max, from previous posts, I think they are now using the same chassis as the EPIC-X just with some different internal electronics. So it would be the same size yes.

yeah, no worries about the other standards, you'll have options. there's plenty of people finishing in PAL format already i'm sure.

Still up Paul? :-)

I am pretty sure Ketch would confirm this. After all, he's in Italy and using #00008

as far as i know i'll second that. that seems like the plan. it will likely weigh a little bit less, which is really good for some applications, and another reason for them to make it.

yeah i know, i'm going to bed... this is ridiculous. haha. my dogs been sleeping this whole time beside me and is going to want to go outside soon. luckily i don't have much to do tomorrow. oh wait, yeah i do ;) i'll catch up sometime. thanks for the reminder. nice chillin with y'all

Thanks for the reply Steve. I also thought that, but is also thought epic-m was slightly bigger than epic-x. My main interest would be if stuff like brooke's custom topplate would fit exactly on the epic-s also?

Another question: will it share the same input/output connection options with the m and x?

yeah, i believe the m is slightly bigger as they are changing a few things for the production line. okay. see you guys. and, yes I/O

Max, I think there are one or two difference if I remember. I think the S has HDMI output where X and M have HDMI and HDSDI. Not sure on the other specs. It's been a while since the specs where originally out and I would expects them to change - after all everything changes - see Jim's tagline.

Everything with a ping of salt until Jim posts, and even then, things can change! ;-)
I think Brooks top plate will be okay for S but that's better for Brook to answer when the time comes. I am sure if it's different, he will design and manufacture one or he might make one to custom order ;-)
