  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic power

and the reverse is what I may be curious about... Will Epic power work with the RED ONE?

and how?

Does anyone know if the Epic power will be the same as the R1 power i.e will the red bricks and chargers be compatible?

Yes they are compatible, but you cant put the bricks on the epic modules.

you need the red cradle, or other mount options.

It may be that the older red bricks could end up being just what is needed to balance the new epic properly for shoulder mounted work.

The cameras have similar power requirements. In its current form, the Epic seems to draw less power than the R1 (read: batteries last longer). It uses a different power input Lemo, but that's a simple adapter away from working with your existing R1 power sources.

The older RED Bricks are one of the primary choices... and do last longer on an EPIC than a RED ONE.

I like the handle batteries for kicking around in "DSMC" mode. They last about 20-30 minutes (maybe a bit longer as we keep improving power management of the electronics). Nothing but camera, side SSD, handle and LCD (or EVF).

The rear battery module (up to 4 handle size batteries or 2 of the bigger ones) is another option but is really for studio configurations. Those are nice because you can keep the camera going by replacing each battery that goes dry while the camera is still running on one of the others.

And then there is A/C.

1.) I assume that means 20-30 minutes of shooting time, not considering idling if you're shooting stills or something?

2.) Will Scarlet last longer on a handle battery considering the lower data rates? Or pretty similar?

So what would you recommand for street documentary, in terms of weight/battery life ? Handle batterie only with extra batteries in the pocket ?

How heavy is the rear module with 2 small / large batteries ?

Much longer if not recording... Scarlet uses less power and therefore has longer battery life.

How long do the new batteries take to charge?

Not too long... 1.5 hours or so. That is a guess so I will drain one and recharge and measure.

I'd shoot handle batteries and carry a few. Jarred would choose a RED Brick and put it on his belt.

Jim

joseph, i would think that the handle battery itself would be the quick one you're talking about... with the bigger one being the power house... literally? ;)

Any numbers on how long the Red brick will run the Epic?

Jarred can speak to this because he uses them all the time. 1st blush is a couple of hours of recording.
