New picture profile that mimics Epic look... Thoughts? Obviously still limited by all DSLR problems. The video doesn't show any shots pushing the highlights, etc.

I wonder how well this will cut with real Epic footage? Apparently this picture profile moves away from flaws that the neutral profile has.

If you shoot raw, you don't need "profiles" :-)

One of the features is "Doesn't need color grading"? That in itself admits that they aren't trying to quite make it like the EPIC.

Hehe...unfortunately, I think it's more of a realization that trying to shoot "flat" and then grade around a bunch with an 8-bit H.264 codec is not really a wise idea.

And it's also confusing to me that, apparently, that is the "EPIC look"? I mean...what...it's a RAW camera. It could look like that...or like many other things...

Edit: Ohh...after reading further it looks like it isn't EPIC as in "RED EPIC" or as in "similar to footage shot on a RED EPIC"...it's EPIC as in "an attempt at replicating Ektachrome"...which begs the question: Why call it EPIC and not just Ektachrome?

Yes. We haven't even begun loading "LOOKS" into the EPIC yet. When that happens, how much more difficult will it be to determine the "EPIC Look"?

Copying is the sincerest form of flattery? :-) But seriously, if you want the Epic look shoot RED Epic.

this looks better than Epic-M, my Dslr shooting 5K now

I think this comment on the video is interesting. Someone is clearly confused.

Beside the really crappy cinematography, it did really look good!! Almost looks like it has latitude!
I LOVE MY EPIC, but the 5D is great for so many smaller scale projects that I do.. Once again: every tool has it's place in my tool box!

"Doesn't need color grading" - Sold!

Yeah, this got me confused a little bit. Are people so surprised that it looks like that out of the camera because everyone shoots on really flat profiles that require heavy manipulation in post? Why wouldn't it be a given that if you load a "heavy" picture style like this - plenty of saturation, contrast, etc. that - surprise - you don't have to muck about with it as much in the end?

It certainly does have a feel to it. For what it is, it's well done. Fellow seems to get that you want to do as much as you can in camera with a 5D. For a certain types of stories and projects I could see someone being very happy with this sort of look.

Doesn't have anything to do with 'Epic', unless it's an attempt to try to gain attention. He seems to be doing just fine making the most of he tools he has, it's a shame he went that route.

Still noisy in the darks. I'll try this out once it's uploaded, but for now, cinestyle works fine.
