  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC... new option.

Some interesting ideas here, and I've got to say, a ProRes output option would be a thing of beauty.

That said, having had a couple of hours to think about it, I think it likely more practical, and designed to deal with the new options in media.

My bet is that we are going to see something like a Stage II SSD option where there is some appropriate increase in cost to deal with RED's increased expense in manufacturing Epic with SSD's as the standard configuration.

But...

Given RED's history of taking care of it's early adopters, the fact that all Stage II owners are keeping their RED One's and the announced option of a SSD Module for the RED one, I'm betting there is a bundle option, let's call it the Stage II SSD conversion option where well get a goodly discount by purchasing the RED ONE SSD Module, RED Station SSD, Upgrade to Epic SSD and a couple of drives.

It simplifies data management, Updates the MX's and keeps them working and gives them faster offload, and frees up significant numbers of Red raids, and CF cards to deal with the current shortage.

Wasn't it already stated by Jim last month that SSD is now standard (side ssd instead of side cf), not an option? And he said it might be no increase, wasn't sure. AFAIK there is no reason the camera side SSD needs to be significantly more than the side CF - it's basically just a different connector. Note that the sRED station SSD module is only $250, same as the CF module. Since the media is proprietary (non standard connector) any minor increased cost could be rolled into the initial SSD drive prices.

Stage two and a half (keep your red1) stage option or ProRes hardware option seem the most likely.

How about a "take delivery now" option for those that don't mind if the firmware isn't 100% bug-free? If record start/stop works I'll take it!

But that one is intriguing too.

If by any REMOTE chance Jim would change his mind and allow a take delivery now option, is there ANYONE that would NOT take it?
If there is it certainly would NOT be me.
I'll even take record stop with no audio!

I think RED is going the following route with Epic:

2. Epic Light 5K brain with speed max to 60/50 fps instead of Scarlet S35 for about $12,000-$14,000, weight about 2.00 kg.

From your lips to God's ears, Sanjin. Oh, correction, to Jim's ears, I mean.

I would even take it without a record button ... just give me HD-SDI out and I'll be good if I can take delivery now! haha

But yeah, its a VERY remote chance "Take Delivery Now" would be an option. As much as I'd plunk down the funds for 5 cameras right now if it was!

Ketch knows something we don't know ... You're holding out on us Ketch! C'mon! What's an NDA or two between friends?

Hehe..

I am in deed under several NDA's...

However I'm not under one with RED, but if I was to say anything I might
know or have seen during my visit at RED STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD I'm
sure braking my promise of silence to Jarred, will get me expelled, hehe.

But what I think I can say is that if all of you here and every one else was
to have seen and touched, what I have touched and seen, then there
would be NO questions of were the future of EPIC and SCARLETT is and
were RED is headed.. BRACE YOURSELVES...

This was my guess too. That is, accept your camera now as a beta camera, or you have the option to wait until all systems are proven to accept delivery.

If that's it, put me down for a beta camera.

Record start is fine, even record stop could be considered a luxury.

As a group, we are pretty lousy negotiators. Instead of excitedly jumping up and down with glee saying "we'll do anything RED asks!" (makes us look like cartoon characters)... let's at least hold out for a free SSD drive for accepting beta cameras. Or at the very least a $15 CF adapter.:biggrin5:

A film gate. :001_tongue:

I guess the new "thing" is a "laser gun". Why? For three reasons:

First: since Epic will be so good, many would try to take it from us.. The laser gun will be very helpfull in those epic moments..

Second: In case of allien invasion, we can shoot them (in both ways).

Third: Red has already announced "Red Gun", and since with Red "Obsolescence is Obsolete",
we should have a gun that should not be obsolete in the near future. So it should be a Laser Gun, or RLG.. Just I'm not sure would it be a 3D RLG or 2D one.. Let's wait and see..
