  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new option

new option

Bring on a Pro-res module for Epic and I cancel our Alexa order that same day, and plan for 2 more Epic body's for the big jump in (new) Red rental customers sure to come.

Do the same with Scarlett and its "game over" for the rest of them. That Sony F3 will look like a joke. Panasonic Af-100.... back to the drawing boards. Canon DSLR's, forget about it.... (except the price point will keep these alive to some degree).

Red need's to offer a "baked in" option to get these camera's into the primary market place, other wise its just a relatively small "elite" slice of the market that's willing to deal with the Rd3 raw files.

IMHO

Some interesting ideas here, and I've got to say, a ProRes output option would be a thing of beauty.

That said, having had a couple of hours to think about it, I think it likely more practical, and designed to deal with the new options in media.

My bet is that we are going to see something like a Stage II SSD option where there is some appropriate increase in cost to deal with RED's increased expense in manufacturing Epic with SSD's as the standard configuration.

But...

Given RED's history of taking care of it's early adopters, the fact that all Stage II owners are keeping their RED One's and the announced option of a SSD Module for the RED one, I'm betting there is a bundle option, let's call it the Stage II SSD conversion option where well get a goodly discount by purchasing the RED ONE SSD Module, RED Station SSD, Upgrade to Epic SSD and a couple of drives.

It simplifies data management, Updates the MX's and keeps them working and gives them faster offload, and frees up significant numbers of Red raids, and CF cards to deal with the current shortage.

Yup. The good thing about a prores module is that it will allow for simple and good results for all from start, and then one can learn to apprechiate dthe added value of RAW as you go. Some will def go prores only with such an option, but instead of silly KiPro 422 solutions to the videotap, (which already happens).

A 12 bit 4444 switchable filmLog/redGamma with good basic settings would be a real marketbreaker - as if RED didn't have enough of those already... -:)

Prores or DNX...

Doesn't really matter, but as things are going prores' ways these days, prores sounds good... And the 4444 format is quite robust for recording.

shag carpet and optional corinthian leather trim!!

This is what I really hope for.
Well said Stephen, I am with you 100%. This would be a great option. I would take it right away

A "Professional" Epic - surprised no one has thought about the importance of that announcement yet. All pro modules, SSD etc and an appropriate increase in price.

"Standard" Epic drops and merges with the Scarlet and the price lowers.

My 1.25p worth.

When I was a Boy Scout at a camporee... my troop sent me out to find either a "left handed smoke shifter or sky-hook". It took me about 20 minutes to figure out what was up. Do you really want to trust me to deliver your next camera? :-)

Now... if I can't find one, I'll design one...

Jim

Love that story. For me, they told me to go find 50 feet of "blue" shore line. That and a left-handed post hole digger.

RED Epic, the left-handed smoke shifter.

I had the sky-hook nonsense and got sent to the lab for sprocket holes. People were such tossers back in the day...

Damn Jim

now I can't sleep right for the next couple of days.
I will have to sleep with my I-pad with my finger on the refresh button.

Don't take too long...

Thanks

Tim

How about a "take delivery now" option for those that don't mind if the firmware isn't 100% bug-free? If record start/stop works I'll take it!
This was my guess too. That is, accept your camera now as a beta camera, or you have the option to wait until all systems are proven to accept delivery.

If that's it, put me down for a beta camera.

I guess a little nonsense is good for us from time to time. From our trade:

The Chroma Key for the Gen Lock. "Go find the chief engineer...

My personal favorite is the trick with the starter section of track; sending the new guy back to the truck to fetch the one for the other end.

Good shooting, good fun, and best regards,

Leo
