  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC... new option.

The Epic can definitely be considered "a bacon stretcher" but not in the Scout vernacular. Now would I rather be riding the train to Philmont New Mexico or reading RedUser?

Thanks for all the entertainment and education. I look forward to an affordable option for film schools.

P.S. David Mullen Rocks!

When I was a Boy Scout at a camporee... my troop sent me out to find either a "left handed smoke shifter or sky-hook". It took me about 20 minutes to figure out what was up. Do you really want to trust me to deliver your next camera? :-)

Now... if I can't find one, I'll design one...

Jim

I'm guessing this will have something to do with what's included in the package deals. Obviously I could be wrong haha.

I think you are correct.

We will announce a new option for EPIC in the next few days.

Jim

A configuration of the EPIC that'll sit between the Scarlet and the current low-end EPIC given the Scarlet is likely delayed?

I guess I'm trying to trick someone into posting a status update on the Scarlet. :troll:

Although, I have to say, I'm leaning towards just going for the EPIC. Specially if there's a compelling entry-level package deal with the accessories et al.

Well, we have Titanium, we have SSD, we have a S^$#^@ Load of stuff, so what could possibly be this new option??

Well, for now only Jim and a very short list of few know the answer to that hehe

Stage III Option any one??

Damn, Ketch I hope you are right. But I also hope Stage 3 stays open at least a few weeks. I'm waiting on a pretty sizable bank wire that will make the Epic (and all the accessories) a lot more comfortable in my budget.

Ketch knows something we don't know ... You're holding out on us Ketch! C'mon! What's an NDA or two between friends?

Carbon Fibre.

I think RED is going the following route with Epic:

1. Epic Extreme 5K is full featured brain with the maximum speed of 120fps for $28,000-$30,000, weight about 3.00 kg.

2. Epic Light 5K brain with speed max to 60/50 fps instead of Scarlet S35 for about $12,000-$14,000, weight about 2.00 kg.

Also Scarlet concept is a bit changed:

3. Scarlet 3K will appear only in 2/3 inch sensor size with the fixed 11x zoom lens and later with (interchangeable) lens mount

for all types of Pro-Broadcast ENG/EFP lenses where is for example new Canon HJ15ex8.5B KRSE-V 15x zoom

with the image stabilization build-in is like a king of the road.

Scarlet 3K, 2.3", max 50/60 fps, 24/25 fps, etc..., weights about 1 kg + Canon HJ15ex8.5B KRSE-V 1.99kg = 2.99 kg.

Price $5,000-$7,000.

The modularity concept remains as it was described before.

All cameras can now output REDlogFilm in 422/4444 HD 1080p via HD-SDI and HDMI out

and with that you are able to choose one of ProRes or DNxHD enabled recorders by variety of third party brands.

Availability: Epic Light in February, Epic Extreme right away after NAB and Scarlet in Summer 2011.

That means Epic Light 5K and Scarlet 3K 2/3" will become new RED Digital Cinema camera top sellers.

The competitors would need about 5 years to catch up with this new RED line of cameras.

I'd say Red would make most dough with a 3K RAW / 1080p RGB/YUV (ProRez, AVCHD, MPEG2 whatever) S35 sensor camera that only ran up to 30p, but was dirt cheap. Those would sell a lot me sez. But i guess that's not something they wanna do ;-)
