  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-M...

Thank you Vito...

I was just really fortunate to adopt Red very early, so because of that, I've always felt a responsibility to give back to others interested in Red cameras. In the process I've made some great friends, associates, and alliances too. Its all been way good...

One other thing:
As a Viet Nam war veteran and lifelong outdoors-man, I'm well experienced in self defense and outdoor survival. We don't anticipate any security problems at all during our field tests - but trust me, we're prepared should there be any :)

Damn Gibby, you're even scaring me...and I don't have any reason to be. ;)

He he...maybe so Ketch! The back-story behind that is that when I first started into the motion media business I made up my mind to figure out a way to make a living doing the things I love to do in my time off work. So that's why I concentrated into the mobile style and genres I work in. If someone's heart is in their work, their attitude is much better - and they do better work.

Over the years I've been unbelievably fortunate to make a living documenting what is essentially my own chosen lifestyle - sports, wildlife, travel, nature, cultures, etc. If I had it to do over again I'd do it the exact same way.

When I get asked by beginners in this business "What should I work into?", I have a question for them, which is "What do you love to do in your time off work?". When they describe what they do in their time off work, I just tell them "Now figure out how to earn your living in this industry in productions that profile your off-work lifestyle - then you'll love every day, your heart will be into your work, you'll do great work, and if you do what you do well enough for long enough the financial rewards will also come".

I'm singing to the choir now Ketch, because I know you work in the genres you love, and earn your living exactly as I described above.

Professional life is full of choices and forks in the road - wisdom dictates that someone should choose where their real passion is, and then go for it!

AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!

I also have a small crew arranged that will document Epic #8 in action:

- Someone shooting stills of the field work
- Someone using Red #8 to document Epic #8 in action
- Someone using a run n' gun video camera to document lots of cool sequences of field work

With an EPIC and a RED One at your side, sounds like all you need is a FIXED Scarlet. It's 'bout time for RED to release the waters! The dam is about to break...

Thanks for the very kind words guys...

Some very fun times for sure :)

Hi Jim,

Will RED ever have refurbished RED ONE's on sale. I'm don't have a massive bank account, but I really need(want) the 4k.

If refurbished R1's were sold for 7-8k after the epics begin getting around I think it would be a perfect solution for the people who were really counting on the S35 scarlet... I know thats what im hoping will happen :)

I know right? :/ pipe dreams my friend... im not looking for an mx'd cam for 8k but I see no reason an original R1 that orriginally went for 14k couldnt go in the 9-10k range once the new cams are out...

I don't think MX'd R1's will go that low in the near future.

They absolutely will because the Demand will be for Epic-S, X and Scarlet, why would you pay 14k for an R1mx'd when you can get a forward looking Epic-S for about 12k, same sensor , more options half the weight and size

wasnt the original price for the Red 1 back in 2008 14k I may be mistaken on that but i seem to remember this... regardless... I have a feeling MX cams will be below 12k no matter what... otherwise no one will every buy an R1 ever again, what would be the point. when you could get the Epic-s... I think 8-9k for an R1 after the epic/scarlet release is reasonable... and if that is the case then that is what I will be purchasing... and when I said "people counting on the s35 scarlet" I mean people who already have an extensive 35mm lens collection and arent ready to sacrifice there use by buying a 2/3 cam but also dont have Epix-X or S Money... such as myself... im not a movie industry pro, I dont make my living off of motion picture... I shoot inies, I DONATE my offtime to teaching teens and children how to make movies, and I DONATE my time to local film groups... I dont care if I make any money doing this, My day job makes me plenty. But I have a true Passion for the industry and the craft, and I would like to be a RED owner...

At that price, I would end up buying two.

But either way, a cam (not sure which, but one of them) is in my near future.

ok so I was mistaken... but still im not even looking nescisarilly for an mx'd R1... but I think any R1 (in working condition) should be around 10k after release... the problem is I feel like even RED will buy them for 10k so they can mx swap them and sell them for 25k :/ but IDk... regardless... im not getting a 2/3 because I have a shit load of lenses that I want to use... So R1 or nothing for me unfortunately thats how its going to be... luckily for me the camera market is f^&king nuts right now and everyone is making everything...
