Just wondering if there was a time limit after which the free Epic M upgrade would no longer apply? Also does it apply to someone who is not the original purchaser - ie if I buy an Epic M secondhand that has not been upgraded, do I get the free upgrade?
Cheers,

You started another thread wondering why people are so greedy, asking/ getting too much for their used RED equipment...

And this one wondering about free manufacturer upgrades, worth thousands, for a used product, that you don't want to buy from the manufacturer.

Oh, and can you show me the bit where I said people were being "greedy"? I never said that, that was not the point of the thread at all. I also started another thread around the same time about ordering kit in the UK and have since got a quote from RED Europe for a new kit.
This has been mentioned on here before now - if you can't answer a question, better just not to say anything really.

Regarding the upgrade...

I'd suggest maybe talking with REL.

When you purchase from another user, the warranty on that item (be it 1 year, 2 years or 3/4 years extended) is cut to 3 months. I'd presume the thinking on this is the warranty was between the original owner and RED.

As a jump of logic (may well be wrong here!!!) I'd guess that the upgrade might well be at RED's discretion - depending if the M is back in for check up/warranty transfer.

It's an interesting point - probably a chat with the guys at Pinewood would clarify once and for all.

My thoughts would be to get the original owner to upgrade it. Then you've got 3 months to make sure all is OK.

Personally, I think the warranty aspect is something you should figure into a previously owned M. If something happens 4 months down the line - or it bricks during a beta install, you'll be left with a repair bill - not just postage costs.

If you buy a used car, do you get a free upgrade from the manufacturer to the latest model?

How is that relevant - you don't get a free upgrade if you buy a new one either, so how is that similar to the Epic M situation? If you're going to post an analogy at least make it analogous.

I am doing just that, but why not just get it out here too - other people may want to know the answer too. If they can learn it here it will save them all emailing RED and RED taking time to answer each one.

From Alan at Epic-M, seems it would indeed be covered, just would need to do the usual transfer of ownership for $1000.
Thanks Alan.
