  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

***Epic-M for Rental***

Congratulations Tom. What's her serial number?

hey Tom,

imho your epic m rental is no relection of the quality of the camera and what it does and can output. Alexa goes out at 1500-1750 a day and thats a fraction of the camera. Do you agree? Love to hear how you arrived at that daily rental price.

Rentals are usually based on a percentage of the overall cost of the equipment and sometimes people take advantage of availability and increase the price because of that. But based on the cost factor an Alexa should actually rent for more than an epic - but based on availability... its a whole other ball game.

Congrats!
Good Luck with your business...:cheers2:

Sergio, I apologize for getting back to you so late. I have spoken to many rental houses on this subject. Please be aware that rentals prices change considerably and nothing is set in stone. Nathans post sums it up pretty much.

Alexa's rental price is $1,500 for body,EVF,Cables,BP9
32GB SxS cards (5) are additional $50 per which is now $1,750
Codex & OB-1 for Arri Raw is about $1,000
On board Monitor w/bld in Wave form $200 +
Hydron HC for on board use? A must have for H.H. or Steadicam
VCLX batteries? Not sure but they aren't cheap.

After doing the math...Not sure where you were going with this?

hello Tom
Not sure i was going anywhere with it...Just seemed low. As a business major i like to analyze the thinking of the industry pricing. But in the same breathe as a business major, supply and demand as well as quality and features of any object for sale and/or rent are fundemental aspects to pricing. with all due respect, you have a responsiblity to the rest of us in the
rental industry to take those other variables into consideration. Being the first to put "m" up for rent you are setting a precedent...

no disrespect tom just doing what reduser intends and having dialougue about
RED cameras.

It's crazy how low that gets so quickly. I get that there will be a lot out there but it blows my mind that it an go from 1700$ to 800$ so quickly while a camera like the Alexa with far less features still gets out for 1500$ or whatever they are renting at now.

theres less alexa cameras... and alot of DPs and ACs who love alexa.. thus it gets the rates

Rental rates are usually based on equipment costs not features.

hello Greg,
Usually being your operative word....If that theory is correct then R1's would rent for 170.00 a day for the body. there are a few variables invoved. the industry standard in the past has been 100 rental days paid the cost of the item, but
this doesnt hold true thanks to Jim's business model of making it affordable to own quality cameras for less than the usual abusive nature of the previous dominators of the industry. So other variables need to step-in and that becomes
supply and demand as well as features.

with respect to that Zakaree i had an intersting conversation with a producer who was raving over Alexa, and going on about smaller file size and how the 3k on Alexa was so much better than the 4k on Red, and i had to approach carefully to fefute all that misinformation. Its bazaar what lack of technical awarness is out there. Another example: my brother is A op on a big TV show and the DP wanted to put Arri Alexa side by side with R1 and made a discision of monitor output?????wtf is that????
