  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC + Leica-M + Pier 59

Our studio? Bring your lenses :)

I don't know how I've missed this thread! Awesome combo. I've always oogled Sanjin's original footage. Hope to more footage of the M's (especially the noctilux) with epic. But until I can afford that setup for my personal rig I'll live vicariously through Ketch and the rest of you guys haha.

List price new is $4995, sadly he will get his asking price.

:(

Prices on the M lenses has been climbing for a while now. I don't own any myself. Kinda wish I did.

Yeah.. supply and demand. If you think it is bad now.. just wait :)

Excuse my ignorance but why Leica? What do they have that Canon L series do not have? Or Nikon ZF for that matter?

Leica has a unique look of its own and its purely down to personal taste. Something magical about that glass that I cant quite describe but you will know when you see it.

In the last two years or even longer Leica went in production of its own first Leica cine lens set titled Leica Summilux-C lenses.

In between production of Leica M still lenses were significantly reduced, then Leica M lens prices at second hand market went up, etc,...

But it's expected that situation in 2012 is going to change and more Leica M still lenses will be produced at Leica new manufacturing facility in Leitz Park, Wetzlar, Germany.

Read more about it at F&D Times article

Interview with Leica’s Dr. Andreas Kaufmann >>>

he means production quantities are being ramped up, as they built a new facility. It won't change the method of production.
Right now there is up to a year waiting list for some new M lenses.

Hey Jarred I have few M Lenses, 50 summilux, 35 summilux, 18 super elmar, 35 summicron, 28mm summicron, 75 summarit, & 90mm macro. I'll take it out for a spend! And send me the Nikon Mount to? I'll pay for both now!

It is a lot of really good mechanical and optical design, with a nice dash of magic.

Scott, one of our lead engineers tests dozens and dozens of lenses every week on our various mounts. Master Primes, Anamorphics, he sees pretty much everything. I don't really hear much about it. But when this Leica-m mount was done and in for testing, and he started to put some M lenses through the paces, I got more emails in 2 days from him than I have in a year. Don't even bring up the 90mm... he starts talking like a kid on christmas morning.

I don't really hear much about it. But when this Leica-m mount......

I've been able to do a bit of shooting on Leica Ms and I have some Rs. There's just something wonderful about the way Leica glass performs. Especially on skin. I'm a bright guy, but I can only attribute it to voodoo magic.

Thats about right. I origionaly managed to get a set of R lenses together so I could test them but now they are out practicaly full time. We modify the lenses with Lens gear and declick them. A 90mm came in to the facility and was out again in less than an hour to a client unmodified and havnt seen it since.
