Epic Learns to Fly - Octacopter Thread

I have a question for a friend. If anyone has the knowledge that can answer these. He will look to photograph active volcanos with these.

Any recommendations [links] of companies that sell good quality wireless video transmission systems [broadcast quality] in the 2.4Ghz band?
We are talking about 10-15W Tx power for long range, with a clean spectrum [the low cost chinese stuff is too dirty, interferes with LR radio control, LR telemetry and GPS signals], weight <= 500gr].
Any stuff that you know that does h264 encoding on the fly with configurable parameters e.g. bit rate, profiles, etc? Encryption would be nice but probably ++ expensive.

Hi guys... Just wanted to say I bought one of these toys... it's mad fun. You need one for sure or actually you need a few or atleast one and a few batteries as this thing is super adictive. Cant get shit done around the office as we all went and got one each and everyone runs around flying. Work is done between battery charges :)

Janne, another reduser that flies big epic drones was by the office aswell and he can confirm it's just liky flying big drones just that it only cost max 175USD when you crash.... It got everything in the box battieries usb charger, HD camera, memory card and usb memory card reader etc.

Well can not type more now my battery is charged.. need to go fly. lol:)

LOL Björn, hilarious...
You should now upgrade to the Phantom 2 - you will be amazed at what you can shoot with it on the Hero3+ when you get rid off that stock fish-eye lens... ;o)
I have just finished shooting with it for Discovery / Animal Planet "Treehouse Masters" show and the first reaction from the client was "This was shot on GoPro?!? Amazing...!"
Once Hero4 is out - it will be a nice option for when you need to fly in extreme proximity to your subject, or in tight spaces indoor.
For everything else we love our BTO (http://bergenrc.com/ObserverTurbine.php) - can't wait to modify it to fly the Ronin!

Agreed. The Phantom II/Go Pro in 2.7k (medium) is really impressive. I guess the guys over at DSLR Pros are putting together a ready to fly Dragon kit soon.

+1. I have this setup and it's amazing how nice it looks for such a tiny camera. Here is something I shot over the course of two mornings on my way into the studio around sunrise.

I still can't wait to get our epic in the air though... shooting 5K at 96FPS from the air is going to be a game changer for action sports shoots where a real hell just doesn't make sense. We have a Movi and a Cinestar 8 HL, so it's just a matter of time before they meet. :)

If limited by 2.4Ghz his best option is the DJI's Lightbridge ($1300). Not only it handles HD to 1500m, but it also extends the RC controller's signal to the same range. Only downside is the 150ms lag... You need to up to 5Ghz for real-time solutions (Paralinx)...
