  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC images...

Wow, that is very impressive. The comment about the lighting in older period pieces, I could not agree more. With the 7D we've been playing with to experiment with cameras with very good low light performance, what we really enjoyed was not needing so much light setup. While this will not negate the need for artistic light choices, it does mean that you can get away with less # of lights and lights that aren't 3952049 watts :) We also use an HVX200 which requires quite a bit of light.

Looking at those images, they are so clean at ISO800, I cannot wait to see when you start pushing the camera further to see how far you can go.

But even further, I cannot wait to see this camera in the wild on feature productions where lighting is going to get so much more latitude to play with, and to see what people do with it.

Jim,

Great Job.

But one thing which is not answered. Can we recored on RC28 @ 1080p @ 500fps to 1000fps if possible even a burst of 4 to 8 Secs like what Phantom does. High speed we really need in Epic.

My best 30 second "period" grade... now with film grain. :-)

No. Answered and explained in a previous post. That's what a Phantom is for..

Jim,

I'm looking at these images on my iPad, I know how ridiculous right..., but it looks SOOOOOOOOOOO good. I mean better than ANY images I've ever seen. SERIOUSLY

I love the wide spread of the autofocus points. Great job there.

That's something both Nikon and Canon have screwed up with their latest modules (stuck 'em all in the middle so they could use the same module on APS and FF35 cameras, cheap-asses).

I wish there was a touch more vertical coverage, but you're really damn close to perfect! I am very happy!!

you know me and Jim said the same thing when we were laying them out.. we never really understood why that was... it is easy enough to do. Maybe the guys over at those companies that decide where to put those points don't actually shoot and need to use them :)

More importantly, if I understand correctly, you can also select what you want to focus with the touch screen. That is going to be awesome. My Canon is easily confused as to what matters to me. :)

your starting to get it :)
To be HONSET I, until today, LIKE seriously TODAY, I my eyes SEE nothing but RED.

I was never a zealot, I'll be the first to state that, although I did belive in what you guys had been preaching, I was never really a FULL FLEDGE convert.

But OMG after I saw these :emote_22_yikes: , and after what you just told me  , I AM OFFICIALLY DONE. :hurray:

I know it has taken me some time, but sometimes we have to have that AH HAH moment, beofre we both belive and even understand whats happening around us. And Jarred lemme tell you brotha, I AM ON THE TEAM, cuz today I just broke my cherry.

ALL OF MY $ is going to RED, no questions ASKED. :smash:

TAKE YOUR TIME, TAKE YOUR TIME, TAKE YOUR TIME.

This is some out of this WORLD stuff.

that is correct.. you can touch focus outside those points to lock on additional object points as needed.

special extra-long-play recording mode

special extra-long-play recording mode

Maybe you could mark them with warnings or make them special settings sorta like how DSLRs have "HI1" "HI2" etc warning you "this is not up to our usual standards but its there in a pinch" to maybe reduce that problem (or at least make it easier to tell people who pull that to shove it).

If they include low data rates, I suggest they be marked YT (for YouTube)... that should get the point across :-)

There is a field of study devoted to making codecs look not too bad at extremely low data rates, which I suspect Red has not done because they've been focused on moderate to higher data rates where (I believe) the optimizations are somewhat different. Maybe they can do that in their spare time, when they've nothing else to do...

I see ETH on that framegrab of the display... did you record via ethernet for these shots?

what redcode rate was used?

Nope... we recorded to CF and at a fairly modest REDCODE 50.

Jarred is just showing off the interface.

You guys know I'm BIG on analogies, and I would compare what just happened with myself and RED to a relationship with that chick down the street. You know that one who always wanted to be with you, but never pushed herself on you. But instead of checking her out you were looking at the school HUSSIE, trying to get with her. But once you saw how that Hussie treated you, never caring how you felt, nor how badly she treated you, you began to look at the girl who had ALWAYS been looking out for your best intrests, no matter the situation.

And guess what, me and her (RED) we're getting married, as soon as her gown is ready for it to be delivered to my house. But right now we're engaged, LOL

CF @ 50? That's pretty cool... have you tested higher than 50 to CF yet? assuming 64GB CF?

I'm thinking 50 for 3k on Scarlet ought to be pretty robust...
