Hi,

For the past 10 weeks i have been using my epic, with firmware 4.0.10 intalled, on a tv series shoot. I have been using it with the paralinx arrow and it has been working flawllessly. Today, out of the blue, it stopped working. There has been no change in the setup. Aparently the hdmi just died.

I also have a scarlet on the set, so I know the problem is with the hdmi out. The paralinx works fine with the scarlet, and I also tested the monitor plugged directly to the epic and to the scarlet and it works fine on the scarlet and doesn't on the epic.

Is there anything I might be overlooking? Or did the hdmi out just die on me?

Thanks for any input provided.

Are you sending the signal to a different monitor by any chance? I was doing some filming last week with a monitor that I've never used and wasn't getting any signal until I changed the Brain HDMI settings to 720p 60hz, then rebooting the camera. Then BAM!

Thanks for the input Ryan, but no. It's the same monitor I've been using. And it works with the scarlet with the same monitor settings.

In a pinch, can you get hold of a HD-SDI to HDMI cable? That might give you a way to get through the shoot. Haven't done it... just brainstorming.

are you sure you got all the ouput settings identical for the epic and scarlet? what resolution / framerate and so on are you outputting? As I think project framerate needs to match the HDmI out that needs to match the palalinks in... or no?

Elsie,

hd-sdi to hdmi cable? Never seen one. I could get a converter. But for the rest of this shoot (have just 1 week left) I will probably just monitor out of the sdi. But it's a pity. Epic + Parlinx was a handheld dream. No cables to worry.

Bjorn,

Yes, I'm sure about the settings.

I actually posted the problem to see if there were other people that it had happened to. Sending it to the us from Brazil just to check the hdmi out will be a hassle. I guess I will wait until my dragon update is up and ask to have this checked too.

...

AHHH! My mistake... I vaguely remembered seeing a cable for a Display Port to HDMI conversion that I mis-remembered as an SDI to HDMI cable which obviously doesn't exist AFAIK. Should have checked before posting.

Hi Pedro!

...sitting here with the exactly the same problem!

What are you going to do next? Send it in?

Updated to the last fw - didn't change anything...

Scratching head,
Christian

I guess that when I send my camera in for the upgrade, I can have the hdmi output checked.

What really bugs me is that it was working perfectly until one day it simply stopped working.

I just had this happen in the middle of a short film shoot this week too. I was told by Red to have it sent in for inspection. Gonna be tough to find a free week to do that...

Also curious to hear how your inspection goes...

Hey Chrustian. Any update on this issue? My HDMI also stopped working in the middle of a shoot on 4.0.12 (I switched over to HD-SDI to continue shooting). Now, I've updated to 4.0.18 and even after testing various configurations HDMI still does not work. So, I'm interested in hearing what you heard back from RED. Seeing if there's a solution out there that I can try before logging a ticket with support.

Thanks

I am having this same Issue. Port worked fine for a long time now its a bit loose and won't work at all. Don't want to send it in for a long time but would like to know the cost and what other people have done for it.Also repair costs.

Do you think that your problem is a mechanical one? Some HDMI cables are really sturdy and could bend and lossen the connector? I use my HDMI with some Hyperthin cables and directly fixed to the Paralinx Arrow. So up to now I don't have any issue.

You can actually select if the enhanced AF uses the HDMI or HDSDI path.

Thanks Trent for the advise, I'll try this.
