alright, my first post here...

we got our epic about an week ago - since then i was basically back in "kid mode" playing around with no intentions but
testing the camera and getting used to the (for me) whole new workflow... damn i love it...

i edited a quick cut of this first weeks footage today and feel the need to share... a little rough and dirty...

San, you're back!

Welcome and watch your language!
You must be the most frequent bannee on this boards (who have been allowed to come back after a while in the fridge...)

Good to see you!

And thanks for the info on the shots!

Kevin,

On the video page you wrote: "a few shots are a bit grainy - as we already learned you have to be generous with black calibrations ;) "
I'm looking to get an Epic-X but have never worked in a Red workflow... so what do you mean here about black calibrations? Thanks.

And I really like the grade... any chance you could save a few of the Looks and send them to me? I like the swing set shots.

Damn beautiful, loved the grade on the swing shot,

The flame shots were freaking awesome, is that with the flame being the light source or did you have an off camera light source as well?

Excuse me while I pick up my jaw for the thirteenth time!! :scared:

you have to do a black calibration on a regulary basis, as far as i understand it it has to do with the operating temperature, so if you change locations and temperatures drop - do a black calibration... this will preserve your black shadows in the picture...

black calibration takes a few minutes (about 5 i guess) - you have to ensure that there is no light on the sensor (cap on objective) and insert a fresh formated ssd...

best thing is you make it your daily routine before starting to shoot... - its a small price to pay and on red you dont have to do any more white balancing (at least not at location) - so its a fair trade ;)

my grade is a mix from various tools within premiere pro and after effects - unfortunately i cant save it as a preset.

best regards
kevin

its mixed - some shots only have the flame as a light source, for some i added a LED Light source on the right site of the frame to get that warm/cold look going - LED was my choice to prevent the scene from light flickering...
