Found a fun solution for stabilizing the Epic on the car mount. I attached two 5" Red Arms to the FMJ top plate and then threaded the other end of the Red Arm into the Matthews car mount Rods, a perfect fit. Then the rods attach to the suction cups as usual with the grip. Worked great, maybe others have figured this out. I thought it was a cool way to use the Red Arms, the great thing is you can swivel the arms to get the rods pointed where they need to be.

What mount were you using? We used hostess trays for our driving shots, but I'm looking for alternative solutions...brave guy using a Red Arm though.

On a music video in Alabama two weeks ago... rolling a double decker bus through low lying trees and power lines, camera's on a hostess tray a foot behind the 2' wheel...

Our friendly bus driver comes down and says "hey, ye wanna tie that thing up real good? Lemme show ye the gypsy boat knot."

... and proceeds to tie the most beautiful complex knot, from hostess tray to camera body to the handrail on the 2nd level of the bus.

"hey bob why's it called the gypsy boat knot?"
"well 'cause the guy't taught me was a gypsy on a boat."

The Red Arm was just for stabilization, not much pressure on it. we used a large suction cup mount for the camera. I'm sure there are more hi tech systems out there especially in LA. The camera was also tied off, just in case. I'd like to see what others are doing.

I've been using Manfrotto "Magic Arms" and suction cups for years to mount Arris, my Red One and now my Epic M on cars. Two arms attached to the top of the camera (via FMJ top plate now) do the trick. Gotta watch out for flexy hoods and body panels. Love to suck up to the windshield when possible.

Hey Mark, what's tHe box on the right side of the cam?

yep - two sticky pods and couple manfrotto magic arms
