Hello fellow REDUSERS...as my thread title states, I'm in an EPIC bind! My EPIC is suddenly having some serious issues. While shooting today, the camera started to randomly eject the mag...even though it was NOT removed from the SSD slot. I tried several different mags and the issue continued. It kept giving me the message that indicates..."The media was ejected improperly". I restored the camera to it's factory pre-sets and that did NOT solve the problem. I had to keep powering down...and then powering back up to get the camera to read the card again. When I got the rig home late this afternoon, I tested it out again...and it got even worst. I couldn't get EPIC to read the mag or format it...and to make matters even worst, the image is now getting distorted. When I pan, the edges of objects seems like they are being warped. It's bizarre! Anyway...I had to reload the mag several times just to get EPIC to read it for a few seconds before it would eject it again. I finally got lucky with one try and I got EPIC to format a card...so I loaded the latest firmware from RED's site onto the formatted mag via my RED STATION and I attempted to update the firmware. The camera seemed like it was updating at first...the fan got loud for about 8 seconds...and then it shut down sooner then it usually does when it is updating. I removed the mag, waited a few minutes and then turned the camera on, only to find that it did NOT update the firmware. It must have dumped the mag before it was finished, because I currently have v4.0.10 and I tried to update to v4.0.12, but when I checked the system info it still listed the firmware as v4.0.10...and the same issues remain! Does anyone out there have any suggestions for me to restore my EPIC....without having to ship the camera to LA for repair? If so...I could really use your help!

Couple questions.

Are you only testing one REDMAG? How does it work with any other REDMAG?
Do the contacts appear to be clean?

Take a flashlight and make sure there's nothing inside the Side SSD Module's REDMAG slot.

Curious about how you're powering the camera as well.

Outside of that this might be a reason to contact Red.

Thanks for the tip on checking the slot for debris, Phil...I'll give that a try...In answer to your question...I tried it with AC & Batt power and multiple mags.

Jim this may help narrow down process of elimination.

Find another epic or Scarlet if you have access to one.
And swap the SSD side modules.

i have had to do this in the past to find out if i had a camera issue or a ssd side module issue.

This can atleast help you rule out or find out its the Module its self.
best of luck
Luis

Thanks Luis, I appreciate the suggestion. I see you produce for Women Of Wrestling. I do a lot of shooting for the WWE (promo's, specialty shots, profiles, etc...) Anyway...thanks again for the advise and best regards!

To me it seems like ssd module. I would remove it and cleaned the contacts making sure there is no dust in between. Also would blow compressed air into a slot. Also, check with a magnifying glass if all the pins in a slot are vertical and none of the are bent.

GREAT NEWS...I finally got my EPIC to reload the v4.0.10 firmware and now it seems to be back to normal! It must have been a glitch. Thank you all for your comments & support, and very best regards!
