  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC 5K 96FPS motion

Looks nice for sure but still has that 'video' motion blur look... Perhaps a higher shutter speed would help, or the mythical 'magic-motion' mode?

Really excited to see this!!! Can't wait for EPIC, also! But, even with the excitement (and RED knows how to do it... come on such a beautiful woman in gorgeous 5K 96fps slo-mo! jejeje) I also noticed that "video" motion blur look Stu refers to... hope it's just a shutter stuff...

Great job RED TEAm and cheers!

Slo-mo looks great, but if you could just squeeze 100fps out of the camera the PAL shooters of this world will love Red just that little bit more.

Nice work guys. We know you can deliver but I have a question.

Shutter speed?

Will it be posible to do 96FPS at a 1/250th of a second for example. From a stills perspective this would reduce the amount of motion blur when extracting stills and create many more usable frames for stills applications.

I want to do this with girls from Shibuya.

Colour science in place and supported cross platform for the most part, HDR well under way, off-speed well developed, resolution proved, post in place and improving every day via SDK, a good-to-high level of acceptance within the producer/director/post/DP community.

RED is in such a better position this time around.

I wrote once that "nobody remembers a late release, just a bad one"; and things were a little rocky at "the first dance"...

...but you have to think things are getting pretty close.

Can I ask what firmware number Epic is at at this point?
While RED ONE took till release 16 to have a solid product (it could be argued),
you guys are clearly "swinging for the fence" this time around.

EPIC and the girl are sexy... Smoking is not!

If the cigar's a Cuban (or even a good Argentinian), then smoking is sexy as well :yesnod:

Nice to see something in motion - yet, I don't think the lower quality makes the footage any justice...could we get a 1080p version?

Paul, you may rejoice:
Hi Martin,

Most stuff that is shot for that ratio in PAL world is typically shot at 24fps for global cinema release with a 173 shutter.

I'd say 95 percent of stuff I've been shooting on the Red has been 25fps base rate for 16:9 output.

Squeezing those four frames out of the Epic to get 4 to 1 slo mo for the PAL world distributing at 16:9 would be awesome, but if it can't be done then it won't be the end of the world I guess.

I'm simply going by the fact that many people don't shoot 120fps at 2k on the Red One and opt for 100fps anyway. They'll ask why can't we get those last 4 frames out of it, just like they wished for 125fps at 2K for 5 to 1 slo mo.

Paul

finally. J & J softened up and gave us some motion pictures.
Thank You.
Now I can sell the need to buy an Epic to my partners.

The resolution and clarity is friggin amazing. Good job. I love this sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!
