If Jay Kelley is reading; don't worry, I don't have that title trademarked...

Joking aside, with the limited tech specs and knowledge about the Epic available (specifically a price reference), could someone please explain how many modules will be offered for the Epic?

What would come with the "basic" package?
What will the additional modules be able to function as?
Any price ranges?
Are 3rd part accesories available or will those be the same as the Red One?
And, for the love of God, what are the modules included in this monster?

Basically, I want to create this thread so people who have no idea how the Epic can be setup will have some reference from those in the know.

Thanks everyone.

So...

Based on the info we've been given so far, the cost to buy a stage 4 EPIC package (suitable for rental) would end up looking something like this:

28,000...EPIC Brain with PL mount
1,600.....5" LCD
550.......REDMOTE
3,200....Bomb EVF
2,500....Side SSD Module
6,400....2 X 256GB SSDs
300.......Module Adaptor
2,950....Pro I/O Module
1,250....Pro Battery Module (with 2 batts)
500.......Base Plate
200.......Top Mount
200.......Top Mount
150.......Top Handle
160.......4 X 12" Steel Rods
360.......2 X LCD CABLE
360.......2 X Bomb EVF CABLE
135.......Power Supply

Total = $48,815.00

Does that look about right?

Though this is a steal, but this is like the difference between the
base price of a nice car ... and the "fully loaded" version. It
makes me realize why so many Indie filmmakers are eagerly
awaiting the Scarlet.

Still, when you load up the Alexa like this, I bet you arrive at
something close to $100k -- for a bulkier camera with half the
specs ..........

We stage 2 buyers are so lucky...

That's what I came out to when doing the math. I'm excited that this camera when "fully loaded" comes out to about that price. However, the cost of the lenses will have to be considered...sigh.

Isn't it true that one key differences between Epic and Alexa is that the Alexa comes more "ready" than the Epic? Epic's Brain doesn't have a battery pack, monitoring, a way to control the settings, a place to put your recorded clips "out of the box", but Alexa looks like it comes with buttons, an EVF, a place to put batteries, a slot for media, a handle, places to plug things into, etc... Technical differences and pros/cons of a modular system aside, the overall price difference between the two systems is probably not that much once you kit both up for a project. Alexa to me looks like all it needs is an external monitor and it's for the most part "complete".

Yes, this is true. However...

1. The kit I listed above has far more capability than the ALEXA and still costs much less.

2. Keep in mind that an EPIC that is "ready" doesn't have to have everything in the kit that I listed above.

3. Familiarize yourself with the way the different parts of the EPIC system work together and you should understand the value of the customization that you can have with this design.

4. Watch this video.

True'ish... -:)

The baselie Alexa config needs a battery and an SxS card to run.
If you want RAW on the Alexa, AFAIK you cannot yet, and it def doesn't come with that included in the base config anyway...

In that respect the baseline Epic config is a bit more powerfull...

Actually, I think there are many ways to compare the R1 MX and the Alexa, where both can make the other look bad.

I'd be surprised if that was the case for Epic vs Alexa, but that of course - remains to be seen.
