  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Element Technica's Red Accessories

So far we have about four people interested in dovetails for the 1030hds. Anyone else that is interested please voice your opinion. Element is listening. They have many amazing products on the way and are listening closely just as Red is.

I also am very hungry for dates, details, and pictures! When can we see these things?

Ok looks like I was wrong but if there is interest Stephen says they can make a dovetail for the 1030. Is there interest?

If 1030 dovetail means it can also work for the 1030b I'm very much in.

Question though: what if I want to use it on a Cartoni or Sachtler or what ever (in addition to the 1030)... is there some sort of standard attachment too?

just to clarify-

1. The dovetail will work on any head- you simply attach it with your existing quick release plate. (Depending on your QR plate you may only be able to get one screw in though)

2. The advantage the 2060/2575 have is that the OConnor accepts this plate directly.

3. Ask your self why do I want this plate? Unless you have purchased the RED "Arri 19mm or 15mm Base" or have an existing Arri base plate, what are you going to do with this?

I assumed so. Thanks for confirming.

Arri 15mm plate with 15mm top bracket and 15mm Nickel plated Alluminum Alloy Rods could be a great weight saving combination.

Edit: As long as we can get other Red accessories/15mm universal mount to attach the Red Cradle or Red Quick Plate, etc...

Just clarifying that the Red/Arri/ET 15mm base plate replaces the O'connor mini-euro quick release. Is this correct?

You need a sliding dovetail plate between the quick release plate and the arri base plate

Okay I get it.
If I purchased a 1060HD, then the Euro-style Quick release plate in my last post would screw directly onto the base of the Red. Does it slide?

But I've purchased the 1030HDS. I'm guessing the mini-euro quick release has no vertical slide adjustment. For this I'd need to purchase an ET/Red/Arri base plate plus the Arri dovetail slide plate as you've pictured in post #35 which would screw onto the mini-euro quick release of the 1030hds.

So what did Element Technica mean when they said their Arri base plate would connect directly onto O'Connor heads?

Dave

David,
Why do you think you need the Arri Dovetail?
Based on what you are saying, I think you are better of sticking with the RED base production pack. This will attach directly to your Euro plate on the OConnor (both allow sliding balance adjustment).

The Arri Baseplate would be a good fit if you have Arri accessories, want to swith over to 15mm rods, or use 35mm cameras frequently. Otherwise the Red base is cheaper and sounds like a better fit for you.

I assume you mean 2060- If so then you would order the Arri dovetail which attaches directly to the 2060, which attaches directly to the Arri Base which attaches directly to the RED. With this set-up the Base Production Packs base plate is not used. (as shown in photo on post 35)

Thanks Greg,
I live in 15mm land (Oz) and feel 19mm will just create compatibility problems for me other wise I love to go 19mm all the way.
I'll also need to get 15mm mounts for my Arri FF4/MB20.
So as I was going have to go with the Red Arri 15mm base plate, I wanted to know what other smart/simpler solutions I could use.
I was only interested in the Arri dovetail in case the other solutions didn't allow enough adjustment or were too cumbersome, but this doesn't seem the case (hopefully).
My 1030hds is still to be delivered so I'm not 100% across it's plate functions/compatiability as you can see.
Also it's sounding like the Red Arri base (ET) only fits directly on the 2060 with Arri dovetail.
But it needs the Arri dovetail with mini-euro quick release for the 1030hds, which I probably won't get if the Red Arri base, mini-euro solution gives me what I need.
I got confused here when Stephen Pizzo of Element was talking about their Arri dovetail,I actually thought he was talking about their Arri bridge plate.
.....Once you have the right bridge plate you'll find that any Arri accessory of the same rod system will line up on the RED just like it was made by Arri. The bridge plate also interfaces with any Arri-style dovetail of which there are tens of thousands world-wide (including ours). Chrozeil makes Arri-style dovetails as well. Ours is handy for the O'Connor users since the bottom is machined to go directly into the top of the fluid head without the Ronford-Baker adapter.....
Simple really!!!!

Dave,

David,
If enough people people want a dovetail for the 1030hds that interacts with the Arri 15mm baseplate, Stephen says they can have one together in a few weeks. I plan on using mostly Element accessories including their 15mm baseplate with my 1030hds.

Somebody needs to design an Arri dovetail that just replaces the mini euro QR slider.

Deadmike,
Is Stephen suggesting an Arri dovetail that replaces the mini euro quick release plate as Brook mentions here?
Dave,

I'm not sure. I emailed him earlier about this. Hopefully we will hear soon.

It'll be incredibly simple to engineer... easier to show than describe:

Mini Euro QR removal

You lose QR functionality, but that's about it. If he makes this, it'd be a popular toy. Just make it thinner than the dovetail for the 2575 so we don't have to lug around an extra pound or two of metal that doesn't need to be there [on a smaller head].

Nice clip Brook.

say it can be done....ET manufactures an Arri dove tail that locks directly into the 1030HD/S heads.
As Brook says you would lose the quick plate function...okay.
What would the advantage be for most Red users of the Arri dovetail over the O'connor mini-euro QR? Is it just longer vertical slide distance?
Dave
