I have the old style ET bridge plate. It seems to have a strange offset for the bars. If I attach a VP, the support bracket doesn't reach the lens and the MB14 is offset to one side. It's almost like the super/standard 35mm difference. Is there a way to get around this?

Thanks,

I'm using it with a RED. I thought that was what it was designed for.

I'll post a pic soon. It's strange because they line up fine with the red bridge plate.

It's an Element Technica

Irri,

The RED does not have any kind of indicator on the bottom of the camera that would keep it at a consistent line of sight. All you have are the two 3/8-16 fasteners, which leaves you with the potential for 2-3 Degrees of horizontal desparity depending on the cameras position when you lock those down. My advice would be to back them off a few turns, get your lens lined up properly, and then tighten them down again. This should solve the problem in the X axis.

As for the small space between the Lens and the Lens Support, there is generally functionality built in to the Lens Support that allows you to raise or lower the point of contact a small amount (generally no more than 1/4" or so). I suspect that the Lens Support you've shown here has some similar form of vertical adjustment to account for small differences between various lenses.

Give these suggestions a try and let us know how it turns out!

Hi Steve,

I'll give that a try on Monday and let you know.

Thanks,

Nick

Wow, I hadn't realized how much play there is. You were right on both counts and it works fine now. Thanks.

No problem Irri! Yeah, bigger fasteners, while more robust, provide more room for "slop" compared to smaller fasteners. The good news is that the mock-ups RED has shown so far for the Epic and Scarlet seem to include a slot for an indicator pin on the base of the camera, so this may be a non-issue in the future. I'm glad it all worked out! :)
