Can someone please explain the difference between the EL Zone system and Gio Scope? They seem to be very similar.

I'll write it as briefly and concisely as I can.

Gio Scope (circa 2013/2014) - Built into the RED camera firmware. Controlled via the Camera Menu, Monitor Interfaces, or App Control. Purpose, monitoring and exposure in how "the sensor sees it". Meaning it's purely the signal information without an influence of ISO, LUT, or Output Transform. Allows the user to toggle on approximately 16 zones representing one stop increments, patch 11 being 18% gray. In highlights, the color red will ramp from red to black as you begin to clip in 1/8th stop increments. Very useful for spotting and tending to tricky exposure scenarios. Take this as the Linear Light Approach. This is actually my favorite exposure tool when it comes to quality control across any camera system.

El Zone (circa 2020/2021) - Developed to overcome the nuanced differences in False Color in various cameras, El Zone's purpose is to provide an exposure tool that works on all cameras mapping also to stop increments with 1/2 stops near 18% gray and subsequent full stops. The goal for in camera or in monitor support is to have El Zone be aware of the camera's latitude. Take this as a Logarithmic representation approach.

Not speaking for Ed here, but from discussing it with him El Zone's focus is about being on top of flesh tone exposure values. Which is great. I personally only have a few quibbles with El Zone's current implementation, but otherwise I find it useful.

Side note. RED's Video Check and Exposure Tool maps "Green" to accurate 18% Gray for a given ISO value. Video Check does take into account an Output Transform, LUT, or CDL's impact on the image.

Is there any plan to intergrate the EL Zone system into the DSMC3/SmallHD monitors?
