Since we don't currently know EPIC-S's pricing, there's a chance that there might be a lot of people who can somehow manage to scrap the necessary dough to get the most basic shooting package.
This crowd will surely shoot with SLR lenses.
Considering I've either shot or been on 5 features (a couple with reasonable budgets) and used RED with SLR lenses for all of them it's safe to say I'll be one.
The last movie I worked on had a moving shot EVERY shot. We pretty much maxed out the capability of the system. Steadicam, jib, dolly, handheld, a lot of F2 stuff. Yeah... there were a lot of buttpucker focus moments. We stayed mostly on primes which behave better than that zoom for focus.
The image on the 17-55 EF-S is amazing. The mechanical build is not as good as the L primes. Too bad, cause it's a killer little zoom. It's usable, but you'll get dust in it and the focus system is known to fail. I've got two here and both really need repair to be 100%.
The 70-200 2.8 IS is a great lens. It breathes some, but it's terrific for the size. The IS on the Birger is nice. Looking forward to RED's mount on EPIC.
Tokina 11-16 is a great wide.
