  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Editing Setup for my Epic-W

u can grade 12K in a bus, sitting on a toilet... u will never get real time playback in full res... u grade on the full res still frame and then play back much lower resolutions... even fully custom built-machines (clearly not laptops) won't be able to play back 8K in full res, especially not with a few layers of modifications etc...

also, the grades in RCX are rather basic, so the confirmation of ur grade by playing back these adjustments can be done in lower res... (because RCX does "broad strokes" adjustments only)

it's very different when u pull 4-5 very complex keys and bend/shift the image drastically... u need that playback in full res.

Thanks for the comment Mike. But my post wasn't in response to yours. They're independent of each other. I did not disagree with you. Your points are valid.
I was just offering a piece of info to Carlos. Cheers.

I know, read my comment again and then read what he wrote. Basic adjustments on still frames. Confirmation via playback in much lower res, which works because of basic/broad adjustments.

U won't get 8K full res real time playback on laptop, u don't even get 6K full res real time with the best notebooks out there.

I agree, Mike. I'm not even sure 8K with a lot of nodes/layers will work in real-time on a full-blown Pablo or Baselight X or Resolve with 8GPUs and a 32-core processor. And the question then becomes, "what are you going to watch it on?" Even getting real-time full-res 4K takes some work. On laptops? I won't say "impossible," but I would say "extremely impractical with what's possible today."
