  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EasyRig Which one???

Hi Kemalettin,

I think the Easyrig vario would be best for you. I had the Easyrig Cinema 3 700N (good for well outtfitted Red One or Alexa) and could change the feather for ligther setups. But this change takes quite some time. It´s not something you can do in the field easily.
You can always shoot a e-mail to Johan Hellsten, the inventor, he is a nice guy and always very helpful.

Not sure which one we got but I think its a bit overkill for the EPIC/Scarlet unless you cage. mattebox, biggest lens and more attached.

However for the RED MX and gear weighing in at 36lbs, the EasyRIG is amazing!

I have a vario for RED one and RED 18-85 it was awesome! Now with Epic shooting mostly stills glass I never take it out and shoot handheld (not shoulder) a lot.

I would say definitely the Vario as it works from 20-40lbs or something. With my lightweight setup it has more tension then I want on the Epic.

Unless you have one fixed camera setup the Vario is a no brainer as you can quickly adjust for different setups or personal preference/shooting style.

I say rent and test them first.

It's a great swedish products so they are very much in use over here.

But to me they are looking much better on paper then when I actually used them.

The big ones work good as extra support for having a big camera on the shoulder. But they also make you feel very strapped in and it's not really easy to let go of the camera and put it aside between takes and such which to me is almost a better solution. And the bigger ones does not work well if you want to have the camera hanging in front of you like a steady. The arm of the bigger models is not adjustable and do not reach out enough. The small one works so you can have a light camera infront of you but it only works that way with small setups.

Not saying it's bad products but the girls and guys on the easyrig web page are for sure smiling a lot more than I did when it was on my back. :)

I used the ER 4 Viro a few weeks ago for a two day music video shoot and it was great for my Epic rig that was around 26-28 lbs. The only thing I would like is a way for you to lock the cable to a certain hight for some shots.

I actually use and love my easy-rig...of course most important is to make sure you have the CORRECT shock installed which you can buy after the fact...i believe i have on mine the 200n or 300n shock for a lightweight epic setup with still lens and battery on the camera.

I'm bidding on an Easyrig Turtle-x "strong" over ebay (4-6 kg). I thought It would be usefull for a doc I'll be shooting on c300 or c100 inside classroom for 3 weeks.
I hope It will eventually serve me with the Scarlet stripped down (still lens + touch and V-lock on backpack).
Any experience on those cheaper/smaller Easyrig models?

I have an easyrig 3 in my inventory right now that is quite popular with our RED / Alexa Rentals. It's quite compact and is the sturdiest one out there.

Thought these might be a bit mickey-mouse for a bigger rig. But I thought, hey, for $350 what's to lose? testimonial by a REDONE user cinched it.
I've never used the Easyrig, but this is a lifesaver for hand-held work with my 22lb Scarlet rig.... well thought out little package.

EasyRigs are great, but I couldn't justify the price given how often I would use it... So I built myself one out of a backpack carrier for hauling your kid in. Cost about $100 and two hours or so to assemble. I was gonna post photos on here one of these days - not something I'd take out on a serious set, though.

Just used an easy rig 2.5 300 n 11-17 lbs with a lightweight epic build. Worked like a charm. Slapped a movi onto it and couldnt have been more disappointed. My lats, traps, and shoulders had SUCH high hopes but the operation turned out to be a complete let down. Standing still is great but forget about trying to move with it. The tension causes the horizon to bounce no matter how ninja you think you are. If there was a way to take the tension off the line for a moment ( for moving shots ) we might have been in business. Likewise, movi aside, just a straight red attached also didnt work for moving shots.

Has anyone out there had success with the movi combo, if so whats the trick because im not feeling it. Perhaps I've just got the wrong rig?!
