This is ironic, after two weeks in L.A. at Camp Red, the day after I get back to NY we have an earthquake!

We just had it here in Northern VA (NOVA). Had my house rumbling. It was centered in Mineral VA, close to Fredericksburg about 50 miles south of me.
5.8 magnitude. At first I though my AC unit was blowing up.

The one here in Colorado last night was the biggest on record in 40 years. I'm starting to wonder when the world will be ending... (Hopefully I can at least film the 4 horsemen in 5k if my Epic gets here soon).

Was editing at USPS HQ in DC, 2 floors below ground. Whole bldg shook. I walked out into the hall. One of the staff said "WTF was that!?!?"
I said " I'd say that was at least a 5.0"
"Why do you say that?!"
"Because I experienced one out in California while I was stationed there and it felt JUST LIKE THAT".

Guess I wasn't too far off.

They shut down everything in DC, including the Metro system, which is how I came in in the morning.

So me and my buddy hiked over to Arlington National Cemetery in VA, through the thronging masses.

It was just like 9/11 all over again.

When we got over there it turned out that the trains were running at limited capacity and were packed.

We left D.C. at 2:30 and I got home at 5:30pm. To go 6.5 miles.

I'm enjoying a scotch right now.

;p

I was on a shoot in the Verizon center downtown DC.

The building started shaking and some people started freaking pointing at the big board in the center of the ceiling like it was going to fall and we all ran off the basketball court... it was a dramatic few moments like we were in a disaster movie!

I understand the folks on the West Coast are having a big laugh at our expense. We probably deserve it.

have to tell you though. many around the dc metro area, including myself, intially thought a jet went down, or hit a building. 9/11 all over again. We were incredibly relieved when we found out it was "just" an earthquake.
People ran out of buildings looking for the damage.
I know, weird, but this close to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and increased threat alerts, it crossed quite a few peoples minds before we realized what really happened.

Let the burrito jokes begin.

The 5.7 in Colorado... I don't think too many people noticed or cared, including those in range of it. I'm in AZ at the moment, it barely made the news here. National news is dwelling on the VA quake that toppled a few chairs and cracked some plaster walls. Oh, I've seen the same footage of that crappy building that lost a brick facade and crushed a few parked cars. I guess they're worried about cracks in the Washington Monument now too. at least it didn't fall over. ;) Looks like there's also some damage and clean-up from the CO quake. Took out an old, historic bridge west of Trinidad and a there were a few rock-slides that need to be cleared off some fairly significant roads, or so I've been told. I guess they could feel it in Albuquerque and as far north as Centennial (20 miles south of Denver). A friend of mine at the Air Force Academy (CO Springs, about an hour drive north of the epicenter) said it felt pretty strong there.

I thought the frequent 5.x and 6.x quakes I've experienced on the West Coast were freeky - until last year when I suffered through the 8.8 quake in Chile right by the epicenter. You remember the line in Crocodile Dundee where Mick says to the guy who pulled a knife on him "That's not a knife Mate - this here's a knife!"? After experiencing an 8.8 what I'd say about a medium sized quake in comparison to an 8 plus Great Quake is - "That's not a quake Mate - this here's a quake!"

No matter how many medium sized quakes you've been through there's no way for you to comprehend the sheer power and terror of an 8 plus Great Quake. Hopefully none of you will have to discover that first hand like I did. If you do, be prepared for an emotional thrashing...

Nevertheless, even these medium sized quakes are a W-A-K-E-U-P C-A-L-L

Hello Washington D.C. - are you listening?

yeah I lost my balance in my apt in brooklyn...1st time i ever experienced anything like that. Quite an unnatural feeling (unless you live on a sailboat) with the building swaying about. I could not help but think of the movie inception.

Maybe I should invest in future beach front property on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mtns.?
