  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Earthquakes! Wtf f f f f f f

All this time you remember from your reading that Chile has a history of huge tsunamis after giant quakes! You scramble to grab what you can, including your Red camera, crawl through the debris, shout at your friends to jump in the truck - and everyone knows that right next to you in the darkness a giant wall of water is on its way!

Be prepared my friends...you never know when you'll need that gear and those survival skills...
It sounds like your quick thinking and vast experience may have saved some lives that night.

How crazy it gets? Try this one:

Being sound asleep in a wooden shack right on the beach in Chile on February 27, when at 3:34am a giant 8.8 quake (the 5th largest earthquake in recoded history) explodes into motion just offshore from the beach you're on! It starts with a low rumble, moderate side to side rolling, then literally explodes like a giant bomb, with the earth lurching wildly in every direction - huge crashes, breaking glass, collapsing roof, and furniture flying everywhere - while you're hanging onto your bed with your fingernails while its flying around the room in the dark.

This goes on for two full minutes, which seem like an eternity. Finally the shaking begins to diminish, giving way to a sick side to side rolling of about 20' each direction alternately. This lasts for another 30 seconds...

Starting the truck you speed down a dirt road full of fresh huge cracks - as you hear the first tsunami crashing ashore just behind you! You some how barely escape that, speed down sunken and cracked roads trying to find high ground, turn up a dirt road into the hills only to slam on the brakes as a giant landslide of trees and boulders crashes over the road right in front of you, completely blocking the road!

You quickly back down the road, race along the low road expecting at ant time to be taken out by the tsunami, race up another dirt road into the kills, and see the embankments on the side of the road crumbling before your eyes. Somehow you escape to the top of a hill, and sit there hyperventilating in the darkness while a series of huge aftershocks shake the hill for the next two hours until daybreak.

Come morning you descend to what looks like a moonscape warzone - giant cracks in the earth, bridges out, collapsed houses everywhere, fishing boats washed 2 miles inland by the series of eight giant tsunamis ranging from 27' to 66' in height, the entire coast destroyed and radically changed from what it was just the day before. You have no food or water and spend all day and into the night navigating a minefield of devastation trying to escape the killing zone.

The above is no fictional story - its exactly what I experienced this past February in Chile. Having grown up in Southern California and experienced many quakes up to 6.5 I thought I was a quake veteran. But there is nothing which can prepare you for the total violence and devastation a great quake over 8 can cause. If the San Andreas fault unleashes a 8+ quake on its southern end or northern end, the loss of life and property damage will be astronomical.

I'm a Viet Nam war veteran - full year tour. My experience in Chile totally reminded me of some severe rock and mortar attacks I experienced in Viet Nam. For about 20 years now I've kept backpacks of survival gear, including water, food, tents, clothing, etc. in all my trucks, SUV, and cars. I'd strongly suggest all of you who live in natural disaster prone areas to do the same. If you're prepared, and you survive the disaster itself, with survival gear and skills you just might survive the aftermath of the cataclysm.

Be prepared my friends...you never know when you'll need that gear and those survival skills...

Wow.... absolutely amazing!

I one were to make a film about that... the CGI would probably look over done.... but in reality it really was that brutal. Mother Earth can be a real bitch!
