  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Early Adopters...

I will stop by the RED stand for sure, as I'm curious to see what the hype is about. But I may also use my time sniffing around NAB for the next next big thing, in the hope that I can get in at the ground floor on that one!
 
I wish I was an early adopter and I would have been if I was old enough back then.

#711 arrived a February 14th... Hard moment to decide what to do: dinner, or play with my new "scam"... At the end, thankfully I was able to do both. I love my wife...!!!
 
WOW, this is awesome. In six short years the face of cinematography has changed. Lives have been transformed and transitioned. Jim Jannard and the RED Team and believers such as the
Early Adopters take a bow you have more than earned the accolades. Now there is more to do we all need to get to work.:beer:
 
Time goes quickly.

It was almost 6 years ago when I decided to upgrade my Sony HDCAM camera....and replace it with RED One...then came Epic, and another Epic....always as early as possible because, at the end of the day all of this allowed me getting some incredible images that otherwise I would not be able to get....and it was RED that fulfilled my long-time dream: sharp and undistorted underwater images ...to this day this is still not possible with any other camera ....IMAX included.
 
I was there at that first NAB, put my deposit down for #679 a few weeks later. Hands down the best purchase I've ever made and the only one that ever changed my life, thanks! I thought I was going to be able to make it out to NAB this year but things came up to derail that plan. Hope you guys have a great time!

Dropping $1k at the RED booth in 2006 was the best bet I ever placed! Yeah I have the signed titanium R, the metal business card and still use RED ONE #017 to this day, but little did I know how many fantastic people I would meet when I canon balled into the unknown depths of this community. I hesitate to name names as I am certain I would make the faux pas of leaving someone out of the long list of friends and associates that has made this journey even more enjoyable than just winning the #017 lottery. Even though I tend to be the quiet guy lurking in the shadows I would gladly jump off the cliff, grab the RED vine and swing through the jungle all over again.

It's actually pretty rad if you can ignore the whiners. Fun to read stories of those brave souls who said "I'm in" and went with it. I was one of the many people who came so close to pulling the trigger on a R1 deposit back in the day, but I didn't. I think it is pretty neat that Red continues to remember those who jumped in feet first WHILE ALSO taking excellent care of the customers who have come in along the way. It doesn't have to be either or and it hasn't. Keep on keeping on.
 
I am not an early adopter, but an early fan. My join date on this forum is proof of that, I think ( even sooner on dvxuser!). Unfortunately, I just couldn't afford a Red One back then, even though I really wanted to be an owner. I continued following, learning everything from here and, with my financing ready, finally when Epic stage 4 was a reality I immediately placed an order for one. Its THE camera. One thing I feel is underrated is that by being a regular reader and follower of this forum, when I got the camera, I felt immediately at home with it and was shooting amazing images from the get go. And that was also thanks to the early adopters. They contributed immensely to this database. I have to thank them for that.

As a costumer, I know I'm not going to be left behind. Obsolescence obsolete is Red's motto. I'm excited to see and then experience whats coming next.

That's funny, because my first reservation was Halloween 2006, too. I'll never forget it because after much waffling, I faxed in my reservation with about an hour to spare, before the original round of reservations closed on Halloween. I wonder how many other Halloween wafflers finally jumped in during that witching hour...

Well even if I did miss the cutoff by a few weeks, I still think of myself as an early adopter.

I'm looking toward to the digital film history documentary. There is a almost home video shot that Ted has , of him holding the prototype RED 1 at a drag race ... it looks like a box with tape ... some how i just love that.

In the RED documentary, would be great to get the impressions and though processes of the early adopters. I mean going with Red in the early days was a bold move for a feature film, and I think it would be real interesting to get early adopters were thinking from a thematic viewpoint - in that those same thought processes and attitudes are the inspiration for doing the next nearly impossible thing.

Alas, I didnt have the capital to buy in back then, but I do know a lot of those early adopters, and whatever comes your way you deserve it!
 
On the last day of the reservation window I got enough checks in the mail that I could… Pay the credit cards off, all the bills that month, and I had exactly $1,000 left. Then I talked my wife into investing in our future.

One of my friends got mad and yelled at me “You sent a $1,000 to a website?”

In the most incredible way Red One #866 changed my life! My Epic-X has changed it again! I am sure looking foreword to what ever you guys come up with next!
