I'm setting up a machine today to start testing metal, to see if we can move away from open CL on Mac's, as this 'should' be the solution to RGB lines in preview/export when working on nMP 6.1's. Just wanted to see if anyone else is testing with Metal at the moment too?

I haven't heard much and probably should know this stuff :)

Amazing how we moved from openGL and openCL and now Metal.

Thanks for sparking up my mind on this :)

So, the issue i and many others have when forced to use a nMP 6.1 is this issue on export;

I've got a contact at Apple and have done many tests. They've seen the issue, not just in DVR, but Premiere and Avid too. They've not seen it in FCPX however. Now, FCPX exclusively uses Metal to talk directly to the GPU's, no open CL or GL. So, by forcing DVR to work in Metal also, i hope that we'll no longer expericne these GPU issues when the machine gets hot. Thoughts?

In preferences, set your GPU mode from Auto to Manual, then check it there. However, after running some tests, it looks like 10.11.6, although stated as compatible, is not. You need 10.12.x onwards.

That was indeed problem with OS. I upgraded to 10.12 and it works. I haven't tested if it helps with the render issues but swithching to metal reduces the playback by c 30%

Reduces playback speed or reduces render speed? Can you restate this?

Reduces playback speed.
I haven't tested rendering yet.

Hi Darek,

Thanks for the info. Are you running a 5.1? 6.1? iMac or Hackintosh??

Thanks, Simon
