Dumping to Tape

I know we're all trying to get away from working with tape, but for clients who may not have the facilities or expertise to work with the data files, what is the best way to dump to tape? I'm thinking HDCam (which could serve as a nice, safe, extra backup copy too, particular if on SR), but also Digibeta or even DVCam. Can I just use the Play controls on camera and connect to a deck via HD-SDI, firewire etc and hit Record? Or does it have to go through RedCine via computer?

hdsdi outputs a 720 p signal

you should go through redcine/redalert or redline

or Scratch Cine

So I can't just press play with the buttons above the lcd to play a clip out to a video deck via HD-SDI etc.?

So long as its a 720p recorder, yes... but not if you want NTSC / PAL or 1080i/p.
