  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dude Sony is so stealing from RED's look/feel

when Sony start to do upgradeable internals and lead the industry by at least 4 years, then I'd start to worry.

Just to keep the history books straight... :)

I upgraded my 4:3 sensor in my digital betacam to a 16:9 sensor late last century :) Cost about 1/3 the purchase price of the camera if I recall.
Ok it was not something easily done with later cameras!

In respect to RED look-a-like box cameras they have been around for decades....
I owned a box with a lens on it, the Pulnix TMC 56, the first colour box camera in Europe, in the eighties.

A valid question is WHY don't Sony provide an upgrade path?

I'd say that the answer is primarily due to their engineering philosophy rather than soley a sales and marketing gambit.

Really? Sony actually uttered "future proof"?

Marketing words shouldn't be taken too seriously..
Future proof was (probably) uttered when Sony introduced the first 16:9 aspect ratio digital camera before 16:9 transmission had commenced, ditto the first HD camcorder.

It is just a marketing term with no warranty or promise, just like footage shot with Alexa or f55 or Epic won't necessarily future proof your project for the onslaught of 8.5k transmission and projection and beyond.

Frankly, I think anyone who takes the term 'future proof' seriously when it comes to digital technology - is setting themselves up for a whole world of hurt.

Agree.

35mm neg film was a benchmark for longevity. Who would have thought 40 years ago that it would transcend so beautifully into the new technology that was also its demise?

Film, now that was a future proof format, aided by not being challenged for 50 years by any rival imaging and distribution technology and when electronics (TV) did come along it resisted for another 60 years.
