Both companies colab with SmallHD.

Arri monitor uses Coax cables not flimsy and easily broken USB C. Arri monitor has viewfinder pass through. Arri monitor uses a monitor mount with pan below the tilt (unbelievable that this is even a defining feature).

I haven’t used the arri, I’m a red owner and a red fan but this is an infuriating direct comparison between the two companies. Still waiting on the EVF here too.

The differences are not big differences in technology like the sensor… just basic usability and reliability. These issues kill me.

The DSMC3 monitor is cableless in that it gets power and data through pins on the camera, with a cable that doesn't ever need to be disconnected. The Arri monitor requires two cables to run at full power. (Now, the caveat is that if you are just using a CoaXpress cable you will need to attach an additional power cable if you want to run the monitor at full brightness, otherwise you are limited to just 100 nits.)
The mount Arri is including with their display is essentially just a SmallRig mount.

Red's solution is much better in my opinion.

Agree.

The mount of the red monitor could be better but there is plenty of options available if one wants something better than the one included.

And I actually wish the red screen run on a normal USB-C cable, but that's sadly not the case its a special RED cable with different pignuts than normal USB-C / a normal USB-C cable will not give you picture which is a bummer. Only the special 150USD red monitor cables from red / small HD works. Something I realised when a client had misplaced the cable and we where way up north for a shoot...

But overal all the red solution is more appealing to me than the Arri. Red should just make a adaptor for the OG komodo so I could use it for that one as well and I would be happy.

And yes, include a better mount. I the total cost for the screen... a few monitor cables of different lengths and mount options is not to much to ask for me thinks.

Oh no it's definitely not a smallrig mount. Any piece of Arri rigging is much, much more robust that anything there is on the market - it's close to the og dsmc1 rigging by RED, or a tad better. The metal quality, the knobs etc are just working as they should - if one ever used the Arri EVF's knows what I'm talking about. I'm 100% certain it is so for the monitor mount. While 500+ usd is yikes for such a simple piece of gear, I bet that it works like a charm.

Speaking of monitor - it does seem that Arri listened to the complaints of Red users to the DSMC3 monitor, and made it the way it should be done. Being able to use it on other setups over SDI or feed an SDI feed from the other camera alone is brilliant, I had numerous cases where I needed to see 2 feeds on-camera
