  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will Scarlet-W get left behind if we don't upgrade now?
Jump to Gemini is slightly out of reach at the moment, however I don't want to be without an upgrade option for DSMC3.
 
I guess magnesium owners got the short straw... again. "Upgrading" to Gemini is neither an upgrade or a "side grade", we just have to accept that our cameras value got cut in more than half. A new MG was $29 500. even at reasonable used prices it wouldn't have gone down as low as $13 000.

So, if we were to successfully sell our cameras at a price that should be close to what it's actually worth, we should be able to sell it for at least $20 000, meaning more than what a new Gemini costs. But upgrading would cost us around $6500. I'm still jaw-dropped at the logic for this.
 
I chose to do it thru my third party store in my area. So that means they will do it there for me? or they will just send it to you guys?

I think you mean camera name... I don't think there's ever been a "Scarlet" sensor...

A lot of people have previously been asking for RED to make the MONSTRO cheaper, in order to be competitive with the Alexa Mini (even though it would compete more with the SXT/LF). Now they've gone ahead and done it, I think it's something RED should be applauded for. Because now it's becoming harder to find reasons to take the Mini over the MONSTRO. Or even the Alexa LF as MONSTRO is now half its price!

I agree, it's no fun for some of us, but Jarred has said he'll take care of you guys who feel like they've drawn the short straw. But to keep it in perspective, brand new Alexa Mini and SXT owners must've felt even worse when the LF was announced... and Arri don't offer upgrades. Neither do Sony or Panasonic or Canon.

Even though I'm in a sweet spot with my Epic-W, I personally can't afford any of these upgrades. Keep the faith people, as Matt Quinn said earlier, I'm sure you will be rewarded in the end.
 
will there be financing options for the upgrade price? If one wants to choose that option to go from SW to Gemini. I would much prefer spreading out my expense over a few months/year than pay all up front.

Any Monochrome... I made that sensor out of pure passion against all logic and those of you that bought them are just as insane as I am. Email me your (fair) offer and Ill do my best. Jarred@red.com
 
This is a great move from Red. Red is a company, it also needs to grow and survive, especially now that Arri comes with their 4K camera. I see people complaining, upgrades after upgrades, about losing money. And they still pay for them. These cameras are made to work and make money. If you don’t make enough cash with them you should either buy cheaper cameras or find another job. Buying Red cameras + upgrades to just make a few tests in the backyard is just plain wrong.

I’m right in the middle of the storm here!

Made a big jump financially from my Epic Dragon to the weapon CF for 30K and am about to send in my CF for a Monstro upgrade esrly June, and asked for another personal loan of 30K. Jarred, Brent, please make it less painful. How about 10K in store credit for us? That would be amazing. Or 5K store credit but include Armor W? I still need to upgrade my monitor, purchase media and would love to purchase some more red gear. That way it wouldnt hurt you guys so much and we weapon cf people could be more than happy!
