  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2. Unified.

I hear you loud and clear, Jarred, but it doesn't make it any easier for me to see my $60,000 investment to be devalued overnight, all the while being told that us CF Weapon owners would be rewarded in the future.

I've always told myself that if my Weapon Helium Monochrome didn't work out financially, I would at least be able to sell it for $35,000, but at $25,000 for a brand new one, I'm fried..

If you bought a Monochrome camera.. then I am at your mercy.... I have said you guys have a special place in my heart and I am happy to prove it...

Some of you bought a Weapon 6k dragon many years ago. Then paid $10k for the Dragon VV which actually turned into a free Helium 8K upgrade while you waited for it.. which then turned into a 10k Monstro Upgrade.

So in reality... We are the ones that actually got kicked in the nuts ;)

I've just lost faith in a company I admired since the start. I worked hard getting my Epic-M Dragon, sold that on a promise that we needed to upgrade to DSMC2 weapon bodies as that the only body that could go to a VV sensor. Bought the Weapon Helium that really was never what we thought it would be. Now I'm left paying for a camera that has dropped so much if I handed back through finance I would walk away from years of investing and supporting RED with a couple of grand or less.

I backed the Hydrogen Ti from day one and really as I feel now I just want out from everything. You can't please everyone, I know that but honestly I feel disappointed.

Im excited about this. Been wanting to go from Epic-W to Weapon for a while now.

Future of WeaponMG?

I like the idea of a Unified Brain...
But I am a bit concerned about my WeaponMG. RED is no longer offering a 6k Dragon Sensor...

Do we get Firmware updates? Do we get repairs?

I really love my WeaponMG 6K Dragon!

$6950 to Gemini DSMC2.

This!! Paid for both those upgrades..

Being early meant something at one time. Now good timing may be key.
Hey
This one hurts and Monstro is even further out of reach.

Many of us have become used to crazy upgrades and to be honest in many cases give aways with crazy “treasure hunt” style events.

This move seems important to RED moving forward.

If y’all want RED to support us, we need to show support.

And keep a open mind. Never know what treasure chest awaits around the corner.

I can speak for my self and realize my career and art would not be where it is today without red

Scarlet W Brain (purchased 2016) with upgrade path to Gemini 5K Brain totals (for me) $24,468 BUT the Gemini 5K brain can be purchased outright now for $19,500....the math hurts for sure...hope I've got this wrong

NJ, even though Jarred clearly states the math will drive you nuts, so don't try...

If you take your car you purchased in 2016 back to the dealer, is he going to say it is worth what you paid for it in 2016 when you trade it in?

Brent,

To be fair the page says nothing about how to get to Wep-H or VV from Weapon MG. I've re-read the page four times over and the only thing I see for Weapon MG is to step down to Gemini. However, after closing the page and thinking about it for a few minutes I'm guessing the path for MG owners is something like this:

WEAPON RED DRAGON 6K (Magnesium) >>>> DSMC2 GEMINI 5K S35 Sensor + Board Upgrade for $6,950.......... then after that is complete, you would pay for an additional sensor swap of $9,500 to go from Gemini to Wep-H? (Total of $16,450 for upgrade to Wep-H from Wep-MG)

That's about the only way I can think of that makes sense based on what's listed. So back to my original statement, there is no clear path and any clarity you could provide would be appreciated. It isn't as if I'm just shirking the posts you've all made. I just don't see where it is spelled out.

Amen, thanks dude for the positivity.

It's all awesome.

I gotta say though that the GEMINI price drop is a surprise for many. Makes S-W really not that viable.

Hey Brent, on the upgrade form (going from EW Helium to DSMC2 Helium) it says "This limited time program...". I am incredibly interested in upgrading but just threw down $$$ for some glass and need some time to sort before the upgrade. Do you advise getting on the list and deferring until we're ready or wait and let the queue open up a bit? Also, any idea (even roughly) how long this might be offered?

So excited by these options, thank you!

$6950 to Gemini DSMC2.

So... when the MG was new, it was around $29500. "Upgrading" to Gemini it cost $6950 for us MG owners. A new Gemini now cost $19 500.

How in the world is this even remotely logical for MG owners? We had the same specs as a 6K CF Weapon, only lacking in primarily 32x32x32 LUTs and 4K ProRes 4444 options and now our MG is in upgrade price catergory worth only $13 000?

Less than half it's price as new. Seriously?

Hey Brent, perhaps it's my mistake, I guess I was under the impression that RED was not akin to car dealerships (that's why I invested) and that their was an ethos of looking after customers with upgrade pathways. I'm not even sure how this compares but it doesn't make sense to me - kinda feels like a penalty 'you've had the camera for a couple of years so you gotta pay more to have the better car' as though it was a leasing charge or something.

Paid 15k last Nov to upgrade to Weapon 8k CF so I can eventually go to Monstro. Something in me always says I shouldn't, that I should wait a bit longer especially since you hinted there's something in works for WMG. I should have waited. Because either you put it, I really feel liquidated right now as the value of the camera is now 24,500 *NEW* and then an upgrade that was assumed at 30k before is now 39,500. I certainly would rather buy a new Monstro for 55k than lose my WH+40k for the Monstro.

Seriously, my upgrade of less 6 months (15k + WMG) is now valued at 14k? Yes, I know its for the greater good of the whole, what beats me is how the new efficiency translates to 25% increment in the upgrade to Monstro. The silver lining here though, now there's SERIOUS class differentiation (translates MONSTRO = Big production camera, HELIUM = Indie / Music video camera, GEMINI = Everybody else) and better clarity of the cameras.

Ryan, the Red Owner Pricing we had last year did have a WEAPON Mg to EPIC-W HELIUM path. But that program ended last September.

Brendan, never can say how long upgrade programs last. We do not pre-determine a window. We monitor flow and when the time is right, the time is right. Safe to say, most times, you are talking "months", not "weeks" or "years" as the window.

Brent,

Do you still offering repairs for WeaponMG?
Hopefully. My Camera is not that old...

I really hope RED implements a significant Monstro upgrade discount for us Weapon CF owners. We paid a lot of extra $ to get into Weapon only to have it be downgraded shortly after.

Brent, how can you really justify that MG owners had their MGs reduced to more than half it's price as new cameras? It's even worse for CF owners. I remember the price being around $42 000-$45 000, meaning they have to pay $4500 to upgrade from that to Gemini, which cost only $19 500. I can't find the price logic here? If you're lucky you could sell your CF and get two Gemini's and still have some to spare.

Compared to earlier upgrade programs, none of this math makes any sense really.
