  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Unified Dragon-X

Maybe this was answered already, but why was this named DSMC2 Dragon-X rather than just DSMC2 Dragon? None of the other sensors have the X-factor in their unified naming scheme. :huh:

i dont think anyone knows, but i personally think they should nip that in the bud and drop the X. people are confused in other forums as well, lots pf people calling it scarlet X too.

I'm not sure about the "X" either. We've had the MX sensor, camera body Epic-M and Epic-X and now a sensor called Dragon-X. Say it fast enough and people here in Toronto think I said Dragonett.

It's possible, even if the pixel design hasn't changed that the A/D conversion, I/O, and that sort of thing could have.

no its not, in fact if you upgrade from scarlet they are using your old sensor. and most of your body.

I think he is right. X could be an evolution of Dragon. From first post :

See MYSTERIUM to MYSTERIUM-X circa 2009.

The "-X" denotes an evolutionary step with existing sensor technology (versus a new sensor). With DRAGON-X, it is an updated sensor board design to allow the use of IPP2 with DRAGON sensor technology. I guess we could have gone with DSMC2 DRAGON-IPP2....

And what about a DEB flag in the camera generated embedded metadata, Brent? Any chance? (again, not on-the-fly/in-camera DEB, but a toggle giving you the option to have it be auto-on when you load the clip into RCXp/FCPX/Resolve/any software that uses the SDK... For Dragon-X, Scarlet-W, Raven, and DSMC1 Dragons if possible)?

Conversely, does anyone know in which cases leaving DEB off is useful/better than having it on?

I'm not sure yet. There are a lot of things I can do with $5k. The Gemini upgrade is still more appealing to me because of the low-light capabilities currently being more useful to me then the higher frame rates. Right now, I'm leaning towards holding on to my money and riding the wave.

To add to what you're saying the Scarlet-W body literally has the words engraved "Scarlet Weapon"

Sooo, it was a weapon, just a Scarlet one.
