• When I remove the lens, is the OLPF covering the sensor? Obviously it’s a good idea to always cover the sensor when changing lenses, but it’s a little less hairy when there’s a piece of glass in-front. Does the OLPF serve this purpose?

• Can I have the V-Mount battery attached and have the AC power attached at the same time? Probably no real reason for this unless the power goes out (which is rare, but does happen), then it can switch to V-Mount as backup?

• On DSMC2, do you guys always Black Shade when it’s an important / paid job?

1. The OLPF is indeed covering the sensor.
2. You can have AC plugged in at the same time.
3. I always black shade at the shooting temperature if possible.

Just to expand on Bob's answer. The OLPF is in front of the sensor, but the sensor itself also has a coverglass in front of it. That is the last barrier before you can really damage something.

Thanks guys, so even when switching OLPF or Motion Mount, there's still a piece of glass in front of the sensor so I don't have to be crazy paranoid?

For clumsy laymen like myself, there is NEVER any reason to remove the coverglass in front of the sensor, correct?

Good luck trying to remove the glass in front! It would take some surgery.

Another Newbie question

I currently have the picture profile settings set to:

Red Gamma 2 (I like the lower contrast)
Dragon Color 2 (Not sure if this is ideal, but it's what the default is and isn't this the latest color science).

What settings do you guys prefer?

Always a good idea to switch to Red LogFilm to check your exposure tools and see what your capturing raw. The rest doesn't matter, all can be changed in post

More nob power questions.

If you are running off batteries, can you just attach or remove the AC source without powering down the camera?

On the flip side. Can you attach or remove a battery while the AC source is plugged in without powering down?

Sometimes this might come in handy without powering down.

it is best not to let the camera powerdown as a result of batterys getting drained, also it is not the best idea to pull a battery from the camera. think of the camera as more of a computer. best bet is to power down, and restart. I think if you plug in the ac adapter it goes to that power source by default. may have changed with new system but not sure

Sorry Matthew, I guess I was not clear.

Let's say the battery is about to die. Can I plug in the AC without powering down the camera so I can keep working?

I think you advised against this, but to clarify. Similiarly, let's say the camera is now plugged in and I wanted to recharge the battery that is drained. Can I remove the battery while the AC power source is plugged-in?

Thanks for dealing with all these newbie questions.

Another weird question S-W DSMC2 question. Can you remap the Headphone jack and the microphone jack (essentially swapping them)?

The reason I'm asking is on my V-Mount battery, the D-Tap fits but it blocks the microphone jack, but does not block the headphone jack. Since I never do my own sound, I don't need a headphone jack but would be nice for the microphone jack to put in an external mic when needed. It would be great if there's a way to switch the ports so the Microphone in is where the headphones are.

Edit: Not talking about any actual physical remapping as I'm far from qualified to do that. Just talking about going into the Menu and remapping the two jacks, kind of like how you can re-map the keys on the side of the monitor for different functions.

I don't think you can. Hardware issue there my friend.
