Hi guys
I've just updated my Helium with DSMC2 Release Build V7.4.1 and to my surprise when I went into luts management I've found a couple lew files preloded in my camera.

one of them is red_filmbias.cube

It looks as if it is attempting to compensate for famous RED green+ tint. I run a quick test in 3200K and it looked a bit cleaner in tungsten light enviroment. I comapared it to standard "no lut" option and an additional/optional "ALEXA lut" (from truecolor)

Any insight of what this lut might be developed for (there seems to be no documentation in release notes - just two notes regarding color science/managemnet "1) Improved IPP2 to allow for LUTs with built-in output transforms 2) Improved color reproduction of daylight light sources" )??

Hope you guys can shed a bit of light on this one:)

cheers and stay safe RED fam:)

I indeed developed the LUTs that are included with Komodo. Worked with RED to figure out a small batch of IPP2 Creative Cubes that might be useful for filmmakers and was happy to do so.

filmBias is designed after a specific stylized color target and meant to not be "too stylized", but as you noted it has some tricks up it's sleeve. In this case it's all in the name really. Generally it should be useful for all shooting conditions. It was aggressively tested during a couple months of back and forth revisions.

Thanks Phil for all the hard work.

Can't wait to test it out.

Tomorrow I will give it a go in some more controlled circumstances. Interested how it behaves round 5600K with soft light - wondering about skin tones reproduction.

Phil, I am still excitedly and anxiously waiting for Philmcolor 3. Any idea when you will have it ready for release (no pressure)? I have been checking your website over the last 2 months since I first heard it is coming. As always, thanks for all your efforts on everything you do.

Sorry,

Just to be clear, referring to this:

2) Improved color reproduction of daylight light sources

Does the film_bias.cube need to be loaded to lose the green tint?

I thought it was that was applied to sensor settings in general?

I believe that is what Graeme is referring to:

https://www.reduser.net/forum/showt...M-COMPARISON&p=1910725&viewfull=1#post1910725

I believe that "2) Improved color reproduction of daylight light sources" is an independent subject related to some under the hood color science tuning done by RED team.

but sitll from what I see filmbias.cube gives you even more green- and a bit of a muted look - more akin to a "filmic look"

Roger, as Pawel says, that change is applied 'under the hood' and doesn't require loading a LUT to take effect. Loading Beta Firmware Combo_Build_v7.4.0b1 applies it automatically, as does DSMC2 Release Build v7.4.1.

Just to be even more clear, it's still just Metadata though, right? As I understand it, the RAW colour information coming off the sensor(s) isn't changing, it's just that the appearance of the Tint and White Balance have been tweaked when you set the Colour Temp to 'Daylight' temps? Is that correct?
