  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

Just updated my SW. Awesome work guys, love the ProRes UDF option. I noticed when I upgraded it didn't ask me to do a black shade like it used to do right after the upgrade....is this normal too? Thanks

In the old image pipeline I liked to use the 'denoise' setting at 2 or 3. I see that that is the only debayer control to stick around, but it doesn't seem to be working in this redcine-X beta. Is this control the same as in previous versions?

Love the update well done!
Super glad now exposure tools work, compared with the old Preview IPP2 (Helium).

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ipp2 doesn't support baked in prores yet?
I can see how that might be difficult, but it saves doing transcodes quite a bit and would be amazing for the next upgrade!

Keep the good work up, much appreciated!

this build I think Graeme said is recording RWG/Log3g10 to the ProRes. This can be graded/transformed from there using the IPP2 LUTs

Massive paradigm shift here...

Brand. New. Camera. AGAIN!

Congrats team! Just in time! I'm going to put this to use on my upcoming Helium shoot Monday!

did anyone else notice this gem was added too?

8K 8:9 full height aspect ratio (16:9 @ 2x ANA)

This is so amazing. I know how much you guys put into this. I was just telling someone last night all about how the Red ecosystem works compared to Arri. It's incredible.

Very, very nice job on this release guys.

PS, if you aren't using IPP2 just yet, give it a go. Your "everything" is better.

Unfortunately there's extra hardware in the Helium equipped cameras to support full IPP2.

Graeme

But you could put the SW into REDWideGamutRGB and Log3G10 and then apply a 17x17x17 IPP2 display lut, right? Just trying to figure out why that isn't that natively supported? Is it because 17x isn't high enough for "full" IPP2 quality? I really just want to figure out a way to stop having those oversaturated LEDs/CA issues in camera. :-)

Thanks

... Raven new orders are still going to be closed till we get caught up.. as that backlog is still a bit of a cluster.

Upgrade times are shifting daily since that is so heavily dependant on logistics so its still hard to forecast those but for new orders:

Weapon Helium 8ks wait time has been reduced to 3-5 days shipped after new orders

Epic-Ws wait time has been reduced to now 2-3 weeks for new orders

Scarlet-W wait time for new orders should be end of June... which is a full month shaved off since the last update even taking into account all the new orders since then

Raven existing direct orders end of April

Vista Vision is.. you guessed it.. still slowly coming out of the ovens and slowly getting out to customers. That is just how VV is and is going to be for the foreseeable future.

So, no new RAVEN orders allowed before price increase?

Build 6.4 is monumental.

We also have finally recalibrated the ISO for Helium cameras, the new ISO calibration is a better match to a light meter and help improve overall exposure quality.

Beautiful!!! Thanks.

I assume the new ISO calibration effects @philhollands recommended ISO chart too?

Wow.

This is a game changer !

Thanks Red Team.

Can't wait to try the new anamorphic settings.

Curious if UDF block writing may allow slightly higher data rates on Helium systems.

4K60p prores would be sweet, as well as 4K normal frame rate 4444.

I know this is a lot to ask, but mostly just curious.

I really prefer to shoot R3D anyway, but options are fantastic.

is it necessary to run the new beta version of RCX with this or can we use the non Beta RCX??

Short answer. I'll likely have to update that. Long answer, I will need to test again thoroughly and do all that when I'm back in town.

Theory answer, and likely the correct answer, the Recommended ISO Range for Dragon will be the same for Helium from here on out. 1 stop difference.

So basically if you are shooting ISO 1600 now, try ISO 800 with this firmware.
