Hey guys,

I've recently had my Epic-X stop working - and just having one last crack at bringing it back to life. It powers up perfectly - but as soon as it starts up the following message appears on the screen:

Startup Error
A serious error was detected during startup.
Please send saved log file to Red support.

Error: 0x01

SHUTDOWN

Has anyone been able to successfully troubleshoot this? I have been in contact with Red support and tried unsuccessfully to troubleshoot it - and as you guys are aware once you get to that stage there's no more options as far as sending it off for service. The things I've tried:
- Reinstalling firmware
- Hard reset
- Trying all power options - Powering via AC or D-Tap instead of the IDX V-Lock plate
- Unplugging all components

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a lot of accessories for this cam - including a custom underwater housing - so it would be a shame to have to turf a camera that I've been so happy with over the years.

Cheers!

I had a camera shutting down after a minute or two (did not give the error command but would not stay booted). A friend of mine pulled it apart and gave it a deep cleaning, re-seated the fan, and now it's purring like a kitten. It had a lot of dust and dirt in the fan chamber, apparently, that was causing over-heating. I basically had to fork it over to a trusted friend with the understanding that if something went wrong, the camera was already toast.

It's pretty sad to me that a basic maintenance issue such as this one can result in tanking an otherwise perfectly good camera, unless you know a good DIYer who can fix things. It would have been such a tragic waste of a great camera.

This sounds like my best plan of attack at the moment! I have no idea what Im looking at inside, but at least giving it a good clean and checking all connections sounds like the best/only option.

Hello Caleb
I had the same issue last year with my epic mx I sent the log file to the red support and they told me that they stop maintenance for the DSMC1, also I try everything to bring back to life my camera, but my camera never go back to life and i had to buy a dsmc2, really bad as my camera was working perfectly.
Apparently some guys can fix the old Red but they are base in the USA I think
Good luck and all the best
Christophe

Find CG WILSON (Joshua Wilson) he fixed my Epic Dragon for me last year. He is in Georgia, USA.
I live in Mexico so to avoid some weight, customs paperwork and fees I shipped the camera body in a small suitcase, without lens mount or ssd side, with gaffer tape so it looked like the camera was really broken.
CG has Red parts and apparently it is the only one that continues repairing DSMC1 bodies, He actually turned a friend's scarlet dragon into an epic dragon.
