LOL, sounds like someone needs to get the sand out of his crotch! Silly Sanook...I am all about speaking one's mind, but I don't get what some people are trying to accomplish with they're posts...:)

EDIT: If Sanook had spent even half as much time on ScarletUser as he was actually putting sand down his pants, he would realize that the original Scarlet would still be stomping both the new Canon and Nikon. Though they are impressive, they aren't remotely professional...

we had pretty good success

The understatement of the decade.

It is pretty interesting, how the discussions heated up since the announcements of the SCARLET and DSMC changes, and the new offerings from Cannon and Nikon. While it might be refreshing to see some people that seem to hate RED as much as others adore them, the latest tone is quite close to flamewars.

For me, there are 2 sides of the RED company. The real one and the "coming soon/specs will change, count on it" one. I learned to love the first one, and to deal with the other one.

I was initially a non-believer. At the specs, the RED ONE had, when it was announced and at the price, it was just unbelievable. RED has an incredible way of marketing and teasing. And this forum is addictive. Every 2 weeks, there is a new announcement, something you can look for. But sometimes it is too much. Things get discontinued, changed, postponed. (4K projectors, displays, matebox, wireless follow focus) And that is frustrating, because like a little boy, I was hooked too often. Some people like it, and do not have a problem with it, some others hate it, because it seems to promise and never to deliver. This is a part of RED, that I am not too huge a fan of.

On the other hand, we have the "real" RED. The company, that is about to ship camera numbers 4400 and higher. A company that is upgrading and servicing the cameras for the users for free. A company, that adds features via an operating system upgrades to their products, again for free.A company, that might not always hit their targets, but delivers much more on the other ends (like 120fps 2K).

This is the RED I totally adore. With the "other" RED, I developed a certain conservatism. Let's wait and see attitude. What has changed, however, is that I trust, that however long it will take, it will be something awesome, something very usable and will serve me as a filmtool. Till then, till it is shipping, I will gladly use what is out there now.

However, I would never dare to tell the CEO of a privately held company, what he should or should not have done? Incredible! What do you guys think who you are? What have you accomplished, that makes you even think, you can do that?

Initially I was wondering, why Mr. Jannard even responded to that crap. Why did he not take the high road? Then it dawned an me. It may be, because he cares. He cares and breathes the company so much, that it is just too personal to let it go.

Now I sound like a RED-suckup. ... I do not own a RED, I will never buy one, but I will rent and use it wherever I can. Did it always worked perfectly? No. Was it often, because of the camera? Yes. Was it often my fault? Yes it was. Did I learned how to deal with it, and did I made the decision to continue using it. Yes. Do I see the flaws of the system and make suggestions on what might be improved? Yes, I do.

But never would I dare to tell someone from RED or any other company on how to run their business, unless they ask me.

Whoever you guys are, do a reality check and please continue on your path, to the forums you belong.

Sanook seems to be accusing jim of taking pot shots at an imobilized target from an elevated position. Even if that were the case.. So what, time will tell. The way I see it red has made it thier pollicy to stand arms open welcoming pot shots in hope of using that information to make better product. Part of the risk of that way of thinking is the odd deconstructive shot from elevated keyboard strokers like this guy. Mistakakes are for people concerned with the projection of perfection. Open discussion, free thought, teamwork and re design are for people actually concerned with striving for it.

As far as the camera if given the choice I'm going with the company that does not benifit from the incrimental release of available technology. I'm going with the company that was founded, built and proven on just the opposit. If those fundamentals change I will reapropriate my loyalties. Pushing a launch date for my benifit... For any reason...is no reason for that but again, just the opposite.

It is a completely different market, where quick model changes are required.

I have to disagree.

Quick model changes only exist because "big companies" release a camera with 6 megapixels, next year they release a camera with 7 megapixels and 640x480 video, next year 10 megapixels and same video capabilities.

Now that classify as ridiculous to me more than what RED is doing.

So in conclusion, if you don't like the way we do it... GFY. And have a nice day.

BTW, is the Canon shipping? Oh...

Jim

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

Oh man, oh man, oh man.

Thanks for the laughs.

Jim you have mentioned a mount for Nikon but wot about Canon?.I.m a pro-photographer with a few Canon camera bodys,im seriously wondering wether to get rid of them apart from one and await youre killer of DSLR.We move very fast these days and so does money from my accounts on new equipment trying to stay ahead of the game.I would like to stop for a time and not need to buy new equipment knowing the equipment I own is the best for years to come like your epic/one,please reply as I sit and ponder!

Classy.

IMHO better not to respond at all then lowering yourself to their standard.

What's wrong with GFY (Good for you...)?

Jim

Uh.. Jim don't know how to break this to you.... But that's not what I thought it meant.. I thought you were giving singular sexual advice.
